Investigate ApplicantsServe as an impartial investigator of employment candidates and checkfor criminal histories, application inconsistencies, omissions,accuracy, etc.Obtain and Review ReportsCollect relevant documents to determine candidates suitability foremployment.Write Summaries of FindingsClearly summarize and defensibly document findings from each section ofthe background investigation.Position DescriptionInvestigator will communicate with the candidate for employment, to setup a meeting to go over the Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ). TheInvestigator reviews the candidates completed Personal HistoryQuestionnaire in person, checking for inconsistencies, errors,omissions, falsifications and minimum requirements to ensure accuracyand completion of the PHQ. Investigator has the candidate execute allthe necessary release and authorization forms. Verification of documentssuch as birth certificate, social security card, drivers license, highschool diploma, DD-214, etc.In preparation of the investigation, the investigator obtains andreviews arrest reports, NCIC reports, candidate referencequestionnaires, polygraphs, social media reports, Kansas CPOST, andother relevant documents to determine candidates suitability foremployment on the Kansas Highway Patrol.A substantial part of the background investigation process consists ofthe investigator making contact with a wide variety of individuals,including the candidates and their relatives, references, acquaintances,teachers, neighbors, current/past employers, military acquaintances andothers. Investigators will make every effort to thoroughly interviewindividuals in person or through other available means if unavoidable.The investigator writes complete, detailed statements of theseinterviews.From information gathered the investigator appropriately summarizes eacharea of the background investigation. The investigator clearly anddefensibly documents the investigative work. The background investigatorwill clearly address all required areas of inquiry as they relate to thebackground investigation.
