Police Officer

Serve as peace officer and first responder for the Lubbock Independent School District. The role requires a high school diploma, a college degree is preferred, and a valid peace officer license from the Texas Commission of Law Enforcement. The candidate must be able to work day, evening, and night shifts with varied days off, understand law enforcement techniques and requirements, and have a genuine desire to work with children and adolescents. Sound physical fitness is also required.

Major responsibilities include enforcing board policies, assisting in the protection of students, staff, and district property, serving as a law enforcement resource, securing crime scenes, conducting investigations, preparing reports, appearing in court, providing a consistent adult and law enforcement presence, coordinating security for special events, responding to calls for service, and responding to civil disasters. The role also involves informing the Chief of Police of safety and security conditions and using district vehicle, firearms, weapons, handcuffs, alarm systems, security equipment, personal computers, and copiers.

The job requires maintaining emotional control under stress, strenuous walking, standing, and climbing, operating a motor vehicle, specific hearing and visual requirements, controlling sudden violent acts, and working in adverse and hazardous conditions including violent and armed confrontations. The officer may work outdoors in varying climate conditions, drive in all areas of the district at odd hours, and be on call 24 hours a day.
