Job Description

The City of Alameda is a unique 10.6-square-mile island community located in the heart of the San Francisco Bay. Just seven miles east of San Francisco and less than one mile west of Oakland, Alameda offers an exceptional quality of life while providing convenient access to the many cultural, employment, and recreational opportunities of the Bay Area. For more than 85 years, the Housing Authority of the City of Alameda (AHA) has provided quality, affordable, and safe housing opportunities to low-income households in the San Francisco Bay Area community of Alameda. Established in 1940 in response to the housing needs created by the Naval Air Station during World War II, AHA initially owned more than 5,000 housing units throughout Alameda. Following the end of the war, the majority of those units were demolished, and over the decades, AHA has steadily rebuilt and expanded its housing portfolio. AHA offers a comprehensive range of housing programs and services, including Housing Choice Vouchers, Project-Based Vouchers, specialized housing assistance, Family Self-Sufficiency programs, affordable housing development, resident services, and management of AHA-owned properties. The organization continues to evolve and expand its programs to meet the changing needs of Alameda residents.

The Housing Authority of the City of Alameda is seeking a seasoned, collaborative, and service-oriented leader to serve as its next Director of Housing Programs. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of the Housing Choice Voucher program, other assistance programs, and social service programs, along with the leadership skills necessary to guide a high-performing team and deliver programs that are responsive to the needs of Alameda’s residents. A bachelor’s degree is expected and a higher degree (including an MBA, MPA, or other master’s level qualification) is strongly preferred. Qualified candidates will have seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in administering publicly assisted housing programs and/or human and social services provision including four (4) years of supervisory experience. Experience managing the Housing Choice Voucher program is highly desired. Above all, the Housing Authority seeks a leader with integrity, strong interpersonal skills, excellent judgment, and a genuine commitment to improving the quality of life for the residents and communities they serve.

The monthly salary range for the Director of Housing Programs is $17,609.88-$21,404.57; placement within this range is dependent on qualifications and experience, however the authority usually makes offers at the lower end of the range.
