Job Summary

The ideal candidate:
  • Experienced in managing and accounting for client funds, including tracking individual assets, income, expenses, property, and account balances
  • Knowledgeable in representative payee responsibilities, public benefits, and establishing and monitoring individual client budgets
  • Experienced in preparing detailed financial accountings, including court-required reporting, while maintaining sensitive and confidential fiscal information
  • Detail-driven professional who thrives in a fast-paced, numbers-focused environment
  • Experienced in payroll, accounts payable, billing, and a variety of financial support functions
  • Strong analytical thinker with the ability to research, compile, and present statistical and financial reports
  • Knowledgeable in tax billing, collections, and claims processing
  • Skilled at monitoring budgets and tracking expenditures, especially within grant-funded programs
  • Familiar with governmental accounting practices, including fund accounting principles and basic cost accounting concepts
  • Proactive problem-solver who can navigate both routine tasks and unique situations with confidence
  • Comfortable working with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Experienced in using financial systems and Excel, with the ability to analyze data, perform reconciliations, and identify discrepancies
  • Organized and dependable, with a commitment to accuracy, accountability and deadlines
  • Effective communicator who can collaborate with internal departments, County staff, external agencies, and provide responsive, professional service
  • Self-sufficient while remaining open to guidance when tackling new or complex assignments, and committed to continuous learning

Qualifications

The minimum and preferred requirements are listed below. While the following requirements outline the minimum qualifications, Human Resources reserves the right to select applicants for further consideration who demonstrate the best qualifications match for the job. Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee further participation in selection procedures.

Education and Experience:
  • MINIMUM: Graduation from high school supplemented by accounting or financial courses from an accredited college, and three years of experience in the maintenance and review of accounting, fiscal, financial records or two years of experience at a level equivalent to the County’s classification of Accounting Specialist. Relevant education may be substituted for up to two years of experience as defined on a year-for-year basis.
  • PREFERRED:In addition to the minimum, Associate’s degree from an accredited college with coursework in accounting, bookkeeping or related field and additional years of experience as defined above.
Licenses and Certification:
  • May be required to obtain a valid California Class C driver's license within ten (10) days of employment; maintain throughout employment.
Special Requirements:
  • May be required to successfully complete an extensive and thorough background investigation which may include Live Scan fingerprinting and/or credit check prior to hire.
  • Will be required to perform disaster service activities pursuant to Government Code 3100-3109.
