If so, apply to be the City of Williamsburg’s next Senior Accountant! We’re looking for an exceptional accounting professional who is:
• Skilled in governmental accounting, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
• Experienced in grant compliance and budget monitoring
• Comfortable working independently while supporting the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report and Budget Document

The Finance Department serves as steward of the City’s financial resources, overseeing accounting, treasury management, revenue administration, accounts payable, grants management, financial reporting, debt management, capital asset accounting, and regulatory compliance. The senior Accountant reports to the Director of Finance. The ideal candidate will have experience in governmental accounting, financial reporting, and municipal finance operations.
Required qualifications include:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field from an accredited college or university
• Three (3) to five (5) years of finance/accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Extensive experience within an ERP database or similar accounting system
• Valid Virginia Driver’s License
Preferred:
• Previous government finance experience and knowledge of municipal finance laws and regulations
• Advanced knowledge of accounting/auditing theory, GAAP, and GASB statements
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
The salary range for this position is $80,000–$90,000, depending on qualifications.
