Summary

Police Officer

This position is responsible for the enforcement of local, state, and federal laws. This position reports to the Sergeant-Patrol.

Essential job functions include patrolling an assigned area to detect and deter crime, responding to calls for service, conducting preliminary inquiries, field interviews, and follow-up investigations, providing court testimony, maintaining assigned vehicle and equipment, and performing special duty assignments and other related job duties as assigned.

Agency-wide competencies include professional excellence, communication, teamwork, engagement, and public service.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, certification as a law enforcement officer through Alabama Peace Officers' Standards and Training Commission (APOSTC), or ability to meet the current requirements set forth by APOSTC for a lateral transfer, and possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Physical demands include exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work is typically performed while intermittently walking, sitting, standing, crouching, bending, or stooping.

Work environment includes exposure to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, irritating chemicals, and occasional hot, cold, or inclement weather. The work requires the use of specialized law enforcement equipment.
