Tacoma Power Management is seeking a talented and driven individual to join its Resource Planning & Analytics team. As a Principal Power Resource Planning Analyst, you will help navigate Tacoma Power’s path into the future. This is a time of unprecedented change for electric utilities. New technologies, clean energy policies and changing markets are shifting the energy landscape and presenting new opportunities and challenges for utilities. Despite these changes, one thing remains constant: Tacoma Power will need to make sure it can keep the lights on and keep rates low for customers. Your work will be instrumental in ensuring that we can continue to provide customers with clean, low-cost and reliable power for years to come, regardless of what the future holds.

This position leads key modeling and analysis efforts that inform Tacoma Power’s long-term resource planning work, with particular focus area in demand-side resource economics, power market dynamics and customer demand modeling.

Please note: The Resource Planning & Analytics team currently has two positions open. This position is at the principal level, while the other is at the senior level (Senior Power Resource Planning Analyst). You must apply to each position individually to be considered for both.

In this role, you will:

• Model: Collaborate in the development, operation and refinement of the models we use to assess the benefits and costs of key long-term resource planning decisions under various scenarios of the future.
• Analyze: Analyze and interpret data and modeling outputs and provide thoughtful explanation of results.
• Advise: Participate in the development of resource planning recommendations and serve as subject matter expert within areas of expertise and provide technical guidance and support to team and staff in other groups.
• Collaborate: Work closely with the Resource Planning & Analytics team to coordinate modeling assumptions and approaches and with other groups throughout the utility on specific projects.

Qualifications

Minimum Education*
Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, computer science, economics, statistics, mathematics or directly related field

Minimum Experience*
4 years of experience in statistical analysis, data modeling or data analytics including 1 year prior at senior, lead and/or supervisory level

*Relevant education and experience may substitute for one another on a year-for-year basis

Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
Some positions may require individuals to complete annual training and pass a comprehensive personal risk assessment (background check) prior to employment and every five years thereafter as required by federal regulatory requirements (NERC-CIP)

Desired Qualifications:

• Strong investigative and exploratory skills
• Experience with script-based data analysis tools (Python preferred)
• Ability to present technical information clearly and concisely
• Advanced degree in Economics, Finance, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering or related field
• Previous experience successfully leading analysis projects
• Knowledge of power system economics, wholesale energy markets and/or energy policy

Pay Details:
Annual Salary: $122,096.00 - $171,953.60

Direct Deposit: Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule by direct deposit.

Salary Increases: Based on satisfactory job performance, the City provides for a regular progression of salary increases for most classifications according to the salary schedule.

Union Affiliation: Many job classifications are covered by union security provisions which require union membership, dues, or payment of equivalent service fees.
