Health Education and Literacy (HEAL) Program SpecialistReports to: Program Development and Impact ManagerFLSA Status: Non-exempt, Full-time (1.0 FTE)General Purpose of the JobImplement SURVIVORS' Health Education and Literacy (HEAL) Program that focuses on reducing stigma around mental health and increasing understanding of and access to mental health services for diverse and vulnerable populations through culturally and linguistically appropriate methods.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesConduct community outreach engagement activities to isolated or underserved populations with a special focus on newly arriving Afghans and their familiesServe as a mentor, sharing own experiences and demonstrating ability to role model effective coping skills, self-help strategies, and use of community supports and resourcesDevelop and lead mental health literacy workshops, wellness clubs, and peer counseling sessionsRefer clients to community agencies for additional legal, health, social, employment and educational servicesSchedule interpreters for client servicesDemonstrate boundaries consistent with professional standardsCommunicate, represent, and promote clients' perspectives within SURVIVORS and the community-at-largeIdentify critical care issues for team meetings and supervisionSeek guidance from and report crises to supervisorComplete all program documentation as required and in a timely mannerParticipate in all agency functions including development outreach and eventsRepresent agency in relevant community meetingsAdhere to HIPAA and other privacy and security safeguardsPerform other duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsBachelor's degree from an accredited universityTwo years of related work experience, including lived experience with mental health recoveryExperience working with diverse ethnic populationsBilingual in English and Dari/Farsi and/or PashtoExcellent interpersonal, communication, problem solving and organizational skillsAbility to plan, maintain accurate records, and prepare reportsMust have reliable, valid California driver's license and adequate auto insuranceStrong commitment to the mission of Survivors of Torture, InternationalCompensationCompetitive compensation and benefits are offered.
