THE POSITIONThe Field Enforcement Agent 1 position with the Bureau of Enforcement and Taxpayer Assistance (BETA), offers you a chance to protect the integrity of Pennsylvania's tax system. This role lets you learn from experienced agents while you support investigations that keep businesses and taxpayers compliant. DESCRIPTION OF WORKThis position focuses on conducting field investigations that support tax compliance and protect the Commonwealth's interests. You will learn procedures, develop technical skills, and assist experienced agents in a variety of field activities. As a Field Enforcement Agent 1, you will perform the following duties:
- Field Investigations: Conduct investigative activities to review tax compliance across businesses and individuals
- Tax Compliance Checks: Examine records and operations to confirm adherence to motor, fuel, and tobacco tax laws
- Surveillance Activities: Monitor locations and individuals to gather information for enforcement actions
- Evidence Handling: Collect, prepare, and submit physical evidence according to established procedures
- Report Preparation: Develop clear and accurate investigative reports for legal or administrative use

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
- Home Headquartered: This position is home headquartered. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.
- Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Four years of experience in tax investigation work; or
- Four years of experience in collections operations in a business, commercial, industrial, government, or finance office; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
- You must possess an active motor vehicle license.
Additional Requirements:
- You must reside in Perry or Cumberland County. Relocation is not an option.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
- This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment. Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.
- You must meet eligibility qualifiers for CLEAN access (Criminal convictions may limit ability for employment).
