Public Service Worker Assistant – Part-TimeHourly, FLSA Non-Exempt – TPOAM Bargaining Unit Part-Time PositionDepartment/DivisionDepartment of Public WorksSummary of FunctionPerforms a variety of tasks such as, but not limited to, manual labor in functions of water & sewer, parks & forestry, street maintenance and repair. Employees in this position may be assigned to any division of the Department of Public Works. Employees in this position are subject to the Federal Drug and Alcohol testing act requirements.Reports ToDPW Foreman but may receive direction from a Public Service WorkerDuties And ResponsibilitiesEssential Job FunctionsOperation of a variety of power tools, including mowers, blowers, chainsaws, chippers, trimmers, etc.Operation of non-CDL commercial equipmentPerform ice and snow control activities, including shoveling and saltingPerform tree pruning and tree removalRepair, installation and maintenance of underground sewers, lift stations and their appurtenancesLawn and landscape maintenance including cutting and edging grass, planting, watering and care for trees shrubs and flowersPerforms repair and maintenance of pump stations, water meters, hydrants, and curb stop boxesRepair and maintain streets and sidewalks including concrete and asphalt removal and replacement, street signs and markingsMaintains accurate work records, time sheets and other forms of dataRequired to be on call for emergency call back, such as during snow emergenciesKnowledge, Skills And AbilitiesValid, unrestricted Michigan driver's licenseAbility to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pound loadsAbility to work outdoors in extreme temperaturesAbility to tolerate exposure to dust, dirt, grease, fuel, chemicals and lubricantsAbility to stoop, bend, climb trees, go into underground vaults and pits with restricted movement.Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of timeAbility to understand and follow both written and oral instructionsKnowledge of use of equipment and tools used in Public Works practicesThis is a part-time position with an hourly rate of $19.3968- $22.0029 per hour.NoteThis job description is intended to indicate the general nature of responsibilities typically assigned to the job.
