Job Description

The San Benito County Water District (SBCWD) is seeking a qualified engineering professional to join its leadership and technical team as District Engineer or Deputy District Engineer. These two positions offer opportunities to contribute to the District’s critical mission of managing and protecting San Benito County’s water resources while supporting the planning, development, and operation of essential water infrastructure. The ideal candidate for either position will be an experienced civil engineer with public-sector leadership experience and a strong background in water resources and infrastructure. Experience in water distribution system operations, water treatment, resource planning, recycled water, field engineering, capital projects, and project delivery is highly desirable.

DISTRICT ENGINEER QUALIFICATIONS

The District Engineer should possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, with an emphasis in hydrology, from an accredited college or university, or four years of equivalent professional experience. Candidates should have at least seven years of progressively responsible engineering experience involving the design and construction of irrigation systems, groundwater management, water treatment, and water distribution, including a minimum of five years in a management or supervisory capacity. Registration as a Civil Engineer in California is required.

DEPUTY DISTRICT ENGINEER QUALIFICATIONS

The Deputy District Engineer should possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university and at least five years of progressively responsible professional engineering experience in water resources, water supply, water transmission, and water distribution. Registration as a Civil Engineer in California is required. Both positions require maintaining defensive driver training and CPR/First Aid certifications, with training provided by the District.

The monthly salary range is $17,000–$18,417 for the District Engineer and $12,568–$16,539 for the Deputy District Engineer.
