Northview Public School Crossing Guard

The Northview Public School Crossing Guard plays a critical role in student safety by regulating traffic flow and helping students safely navigate street crossings near schools. Serving as a visible, reassuring presence in the community, the Crossing Guard operates at designated school crossings before and after school hours to ensure pedestrian safety and manage traffic gaps efficiently.

Qualifications:

• Education: High School diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
• State & Local Compliance: Must comply with all local law enforcement and school district hiring criteria.
• Mandatory Training (Michigan Standards): Initial Instruction: Complete a minimum of 4 hours of state-approved training prior to beginning duties (typically 3 hours of classroom instruction and 1 hour of field training). Annual Refresher: Complete 2 hours of annual refresher training prior to each school year (typically 1.5 hours classroom and 0.5 hours field training). Program Approval: Training courses are approved by the Michigan Department of Education and Michigan Department of State Police, and are administered by the local law enforcement agency or designated representative.
• Licensing/Clearance: Must possess a valid driver's license, mandatory background and drug screening.
• Physical Demands: Ability to stand/walk for extended shifts, work outdoors in all weather conditions, lift/move up to 25 pounds and react quickly to traffic.

Essential Job Functions:

• Standing and walking outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions (rain, cold, extreme heat).
• Holding and displaying a high-visibility stop paddle at or above shoulder height.
• Clear visual acuity and auditory awareness to evaluate approaching vehicles and monitor surrounding environmental conditions.
• Key Skills: Punctuality, situational awareness, calm demeanor under pressure, and clear verbal communication.
• Report unsafe driving to the local authorities.

Terms of Employment:

• Work Days and Hours: School Days following the Northview Public Schools district calendar 7:00 am - 7:30 am Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. One hour later on Wednesdays - 8:00-8:30am.
• Hourly rate of pay
• Location: Hunsberger and Airway

Evaluation:

• Annual evaluation performed by the Northview's Director of Safety
• Posted until filled
