Summary

The Opportunity:The Public Works Department has a promotional opportunity for current fulltime City employees. The ideal candidate will be a team player who is organized, resourceful, possesses excellent communication skills, and the ability to undertake the full range of administrative tasks.The Recruitment Process:Applications will be screened and qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the examination process, which includes a Qualifications Appraisal Interview. Qualifications Appraisal Interviews are tentatively scheduled for Thursday, October 1, 2026. Successful candidates will be placed on the eligible list for employment consideration for at least six months.Representative Duties:Assists in budget preparation and administration;Assists with the acquisition of supplies, materials, and services for department;Assists in development and revision of administrative policies and procedures;Assists with specialized administrative problems including staffing requirements and equipment usage levels;Prepares administrative analyses, studies, and research projects regarding City and departmental practices, procedures and operations;Prepares detailed statistical analyses, charts, and graphs and makes written or oral presentations of gathered data;Prepares purchase requisitions and maintains purchasing files;Prepares manuals, departmental correspondence, and various informational surveys;Designs and revises forms;Researches and prepares grant applications and administers grants;Serves as liaison for the department in its contacts with other City departments, agencies, outside vendors, or community groups;May assume supervisory responsibility over departmental clerical staff;May request legal opinions.Education:Equivalent to at least a Bachelor's degree in public or business administration or a related field.Experience:At least one year administrative staff experience in a municipal government setting.
