The State of South Carolina is hiring for the position of State Trooper. This is a full-time, FTE position with a salary range of $58,222.00 - $80,622.00 annually. The job is available statewide in South Carolina.

Candidates must be hired into full-time equivalent positions in one of the designated SCHP Critical Market Areas. A sign-on bonus is available, paid in five installments over the course of employment.

The responsibilities of this role include enforcing vehicle laws and other criminal laws, patrolling highways, investigating collisions, serving as a witness in courts, maintaining enforcement reports, and providing information to the public regarding vehicle laws. Candidates are also responsible for handling public funds.

Minimum and additional requirements include a high school diploma, experience in patrol or investigative duties with a public law enforcement agency, or a bachelor's degree in lieu of experience. Additional requirements include being a US citizen, at least 21 years old, capable of performing all essential job functions, a resident of South Carolina with a valid South Carolina driver's license, and passing a pre-employment physical fitness test and medical screening.

County assignments are based on critical need areas, and starting salary for certified South Carolina Class I Law Enforcement Officers ranges from $59,386 - $82,166 depending on prior law enforcement experience.
