The Assistant WIC Director performs supervisory and administrative work assisting in direction of the Women, Infants, and Children supplemental nutrition program. Employee is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of policies and procedures, coordinating WIC services with other human services agencies and health care professionals, and responding to complaints pertaining to program staff, clients, and vendors.

Examples of Duties

Supervise employees; schedules and coordinates clinic employees and clients; interviews and trains new employees.

Provides nutrition education to clients and provides referrals to clients as necessary.

Performs lab work for clients in the program; analyzes results and makes recommendations as necessary.

Teaches nutrition and breastfeeding to clients to ensure they are educated on healthy nutritional habits as well as the correct way to use breast feeding equipment; issues breast pumps as necessary.

Prepares and submits accounting and financial reports and records as required by local, state, and/or federal oversight agencies.

Compiles and consolidates requests for purchases gathers pertinent information regarding requested items and submits purchase requests with approval of appropriate WIC budget authority, tracking process until item is received.

Assists in planning, developing, implementing and maintaining policies and procedures for operation of WIC program.

Assists and advises subordinates, as necessary, resolving problems as non-routine situations arise.

Communicates with the WIC State Agency, local Health Department Administrator, and other County offices to coordinate fiscal compliance with state, local, and federal guidelines.

Reviews employee time sheets and new policies as necessary; ensures that new policies are enforced.

Regular and punctual attendance is required.

Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field and a minimum five years of experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience required.

Possession of a valid driver's license. Must be able to obtain a State of Texas driver's license within 90 days of employment.

The position is based in Denton, however, travel to all Denton County WIC clinics will be required.
