Deputy Sheriff Corporal PositionThis posting announcement will be used to fill a promotional only Deputy Sheriff Corporal position. In accordance with the Memorandum of Agreement between Anne Arundel County and Fraternal Order of Police, Anne Arundel County Lodge # 106, Inc. Proficiency Advancement to Deputy Sheriff Corporal requires the successful completion of a pass/fail proficiency exam.Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from high school; two (2) continuous years of experience as an Anne Arundel County Deputy Sheriff and one (1) continuous year of experience as an Anne Arundel County Deputy Sheriff First Class; or three (3) continuous years of experience as a Deputy Sheriff in the Anne Arundel County Sheriff's Office including the attainment of the rank of Deputy Sheriff First Class; and a valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license.Testing Timeline: Deputy Sheriff Corporal: Deputies who will achieve the required time in their current classification of Deputy Sheriff, by October 28, 2026 are eligible to take the October 2026 proficiency advancement examination for Deputy Sheriff Corporal. There will be two (2) testing sessions: Wednesday, October 21, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, October 24, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. Testing will take place in the Office of Personnel, 2660 Riva Road, Annapolis, Maryland. Candidates will be required to self-schedule for one of the testing dates and times. Candidates will have until, Friday, October 16, 2026 at 4:30 pm to schedule for the exam. A review session has been scheduled at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2026 in the Office of Personnel. Candidates will have two (2) hours for the test review. Information on review session procedures will be provided in further correspondence with candidates. All questions regarding the Testing Timeline may be directed to Chello Pitts, Personnel Analyst, in the Office of Personnel at 410-222-4411.Testing Process: All Candidates must apply on-line then click on "Job Announcements" then "Promotional". Click on Deputy Sheriff Corporal to apply. Instead of including a social security number, candidates must use their badge number; the first five (5) digits should be replaced with 1's and the last four (4) digits replaced with the candidates' ID number. There will be no need to complete the education or work history portion of the application. Once the application has been submitted, candidates will receive a confirmation that the application has been received. Candidates will receive subsequent information by e-mail on how to self-schedule for a test session.
