JOB DESCRIPTION: The JROTC Army Instructor (AI) is an enlisted or retired military professional who assists the Senior Army Instructor (SAI) in teaching leadership, citizenship, and core skills. Army JROTC Instructors manage the unit's educational, administrative, and operational aspects and implement policies and procedures administered by the school and the U.S. Army. The AI of the JROTC unit work directly for the high school principal.

The AI will perform the following specific functions and responsibilities:
  • Manage and conduct the JROTC unit according to Army and school rules, regulations, and policies. Advise school authorities on policy and regulation changes.
  • Maintain good relations with students, faculty, school administration, and the school community.
  • Conduct public relations efforts in the middle and elementary schools, among school and community officials, civic groups, parent-teacher groups, and other individuals or groups, designed to promote and further the understanding of JROTC.
  • Enroll students in JROTC.
  • Teach the Army-designed JROTC curriculum thoroughly and share teaching responsibilities equally with the Senior Army Instructor (AI).
  • Execute a robust after-school, integrated, co-curricular activity program.
  • Develop and implement the annual master training schedule.
  • Maintain contact with parents of all cadets experiencing academic or behavioral problems.
  • Ensure JROTC unit areas are neat and orderly.
  • Manage program-connected instructional materials and supplies including procurement, inventory, and general maintenance.
  • Maintain accountability of all government equipment.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: An Army officer (W-1 to W-5, O-3 to O-6) or noncommissioned officer (E-6 to E-9) who is separated or retired with an honorable discharge within the past 5 years with at least 8 years of service. Additionally, officers and noncommissioned officers who are active participating members of the selected reserve at the time of application and have not yet reached retirement eligibility may serve as instructors. Candidates for this position must possess at least an Associates degree and must also be certified by US Army Cadet Command. Teacher certification is not required.
