Summary
The Charter Township of Ypsilanti is seeking an energetic, self-motivated individual with a positive attitude to join a growing team responsible for municipal code enforcement. This position performs general ordinance enforcement duties and enforces property maintenance codes during scheduled rental housing and vacant building inspections. The successful candidate will investigate community ordinance violations and work to find resolutions.
Key responsibilities:Enforce municipal ordinances and property maintenance codes.
Conduct rental housing and vacant building inspections.
Investigate ordinance violations and document findings.
Prepare and maintain accurate reports and records.
Communicate with residents, property owners, and businesses regarding code compliance.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Ability to read, research, interpret, and enforce municipal ordinances and the International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC).
Strong written, verbal, and customer service skills.
Ability to work independently and manage daily schedules.
Municipal code enforcement experience preferred but not required.
Valid driver's license with a good driving record required.
Must obtain MSU Extension Citizen Planner Certification within six months and ICC Property Maintenance & Housing Inspector certification within one year of employment.
Salary: $26.43 per hour ($54,974.40 annually).
