The Reserve Student Guard plays a crucial role in maintaining safety, crowd control, and security during campus student and athletic events. Working as an extra set of eyes and ears for campus police officers, this position primarily manages event security operations while remaining available to cover regular Security Guard shifts when needed.Primary Event Security Responsibilities: Crowd & Area Monitoring: Patrol designated event perimeters, venues, and athletic facilities to observe surroundings, maintain a visible safety presence, and act as an additional observer for police officers.Traffic & Access Control: Direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic before, during, and after events, including manning assigned road closures and controlling venue entry points.Shift Coverage: Fill open shifts for regular Student Security Guards as needed, which includes conducting campus building lockups and night patrols.Incident Reporting: Promptly identify and report safety hazards, facility damage, rule violations, or suspicious activity to the duty officer or supervising police personnel.Documentation: Maintain clear, concise, and detailed logs of shift activities, traffic incidents, or notable events during assigned duties.Qualifications: Flexibility & Availability: Willingness to work flexible hours around event schedules, including evenings, weekends, game days, holidays, and occasional swing or graveyard shifts for fill-in coverage.Observation & Vigilance: Strong situational awareness and the confidence to patrol event spaces independently or as part of a security team.Communication & Professionalism: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to provide firm, polite direction to event attendees, students, staff, and visitors while representing campus safety.Personal Attributes: Dependable, highly trustworthy, calm under pressure, and honest.Valid driver's license.Ability to stand, walk, and patrol on foot for extended periods in various outdoor weather conditions.Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs (e.g., setting up traffic cones, barricades, or event signage).Part-Time Commitment: Position hours are variable based on the scheduled campus and athletic events calendar.Weekly Limit: Total working hours will not exceed 20 hours per week.Hour Variability: Depending on the volume, timing, and nature of scheduled events, actual weekly hours may vary and will frequently fall below the 20-hour maximum.Disclaimer: Southern Utah University's Human Resources and Career Center act only as a referral service to facilitate contacts between employers seeking employees and individuals seeking employment.
