Job Description

Position available with the Municipal Court Department, Traffic Violations Bureau - Finance Division
Pay Range: $18.37-$28.01 per hour
Work Location: 511 E. 11th Street
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

What you'll do
  • Process Appeals for the court on the front end.
  • Process cash bonds and cash bond refunds for the court, ensuring that the amounts are accurate and balanced for the accounting/finance team.
  • Process Professional bonds and lift warrants.
  • Process all Pay agreement contracts for the defendant to sign and scan the contract to the case in SMC
  • Receive and scan cash bond and professional bond paperwork, ensuring accurate entry for the accounting/finance team.
  • Manage Time to Pay (TTP) for the court and assist customers in setting up TTP in SMC and IMDSPLUS
  • Provide professional customer support in-person, by email, and by telephone, using professional techniques to ensure effective communication with customers.
  • Go above and beyond to assist customers with questions about their tickets and other city departments, connect them with the right people, and provide resources.
  • Manage cash transactions, including handling cash registers, balancing, and processing payments, and providing accurate change by utilizing modern office practices, procedures, equipment, and standard clerical techniques to maintain the municipal accounting system and ensure accounts receivable and payable are accurate for the accounting/finance team.
  • Submit daily cash reports and documentation to the accounting/finance team.
  • Maintain, organize, and record information efficiently and accurately for the customers and the court.
  • Proficiently operate a personal computer, including multiple databases and Office suite packages, to perform various tasks such as bond refunds and email correspondence.
  • Ensure every dollar collected matches the daily accounting/finance team's report.
  • Distribute court mail to the appropriate department, process return mail for the court, and log it as returned on each case.
  • Update the customers' information in the court systems.
  • Process final judgment/bond forfeiture payments for bonding companies.
  • Identify daily Dropbox and Jetpay payments.
  • Process payout bonds and ensure the amount collected is correct for the accounting/finance team.
  • Process Compliance letters for the customers.
  • Process mail-in and drop-box payments.
  • Process entry of appearance for attorneys.
  • Process continuance requests and record requests for the customers.
  • Process bond assignments for the bonding companies.
  • Continue cases for Bond Forfeiture Hearings.
  • Process payments on (L) Status cases and put them on a new Payment Agreement Contract.
  • Process returned restitution checks.
  • Approve attorney recommendations in IMDSPLUS
  • File customers' documents and scan them to their cases.
  • Uses resources effectively and efficiently.
  • Exercises independent judgment, be flexible, and is adaptable.
  • Respects individual diversity, listens to their concerns, and is open to new ideas and constructive criticism.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

REQUIRES
  • High school graduation or GED and one (1) year of public or private sector experience in customer service work; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must pass a background check as prescribed by the City.
  • May be required to complete additional customer service training as established by the hiring Department.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
