As part of a multidisciplinary team serving the NIH Intramural Research Program, you'll contribute to a mission-driven organization of more than 2,000 professionals across 30 departments. Located on the NIH campus, the Clinical Center's expansive, state-of-the-art complex spans 3.5 million square feet and brings together clinicians, researchers, and healthcare specialists dedicated to improving patient outcomes through scientific discovery.


Position Details

  • Pay Rate: $38.92 - $56.00/hr plus $5.42 H&W
  • Contract length: 13 weeks with the potential for funding extension
  • Schedule: 3 x 12-hour night shifts; weekends and holiday nights as needed

What You'll Do

  • Provide safe, high-quality patient care in the NIH biomedical research environment.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care for pediatric patients.
  • Monitor patient conditions, administer medications and treatments, and evaluate patient responses.
  • Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic health record.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of physicians, researchers, pharmacists, and healthcare professionals to coordinate care.
  • Educate patients and families regarding treatments, research participation, and ongoing care needs.
  • Support clinical research activities by following study protocols and contributing to accurate data collection.
  • Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition and emergency situations.
  • Perform functions within the accepted scope of practice and granted privileges.
  • Comply with NIH policies, Joint Commission standards, safety, infection control, patient safety, confidentiality, HIPAA, and documentation requirements.
  • May float to another unit within the individual's competency skill set.


Requirements

  • Education: BSN, accredited nursing diploma, or ADN from an accredited university; successfully passed NCLEX.
  • Licensure: Current, active, valid, unrestricted RN license in at least one U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
  • Certifications: Current BLS; ACLS and PALS if required
  • Experience: 2-3 years of current pediatric acute care hospital experience
  • Credentialing: Candidates must successfully complete NIH Clinical Center credentialing and onboarding, including verification of licensure, education, experience, clinical competency, health and immunization requirements, BLS certification, N95 fit testing, background processing, orientation, and required training. U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency is required.
