Principal Financial Systems Administrator

Chicago, IL | Hybrid (3 days/week onsite)


We are seeking a highly strategic, detail-oriented, and experienced Principal Financial Systems Analyst to join a growing finance operations team. This role serves as the primary owner and technical leader for the organization's financial systems ecosystem, with a strong focus on ERP, procurement, and financial process automation.


As a hands-on technical leader, you will oversee system administration, integrations, compliance, automation, and critical financial data pipelines. A significant aspect of this role involves managing end-to-end financial system integrations, ensuring seamless data flow between ERP platforms, procurement solutions, banking systems, and other enterprise applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Systems Administration & Architecture:Serve as the primary administrator and technical owner of enterprise financial systems, including ERP and spend management platforms. Lead system configuration, upgrades, workflow development, customizations, security, and user access management.
  • Integration Management: Design, build, monitor, and support automated integrations between financial systems, expense management tools, banking platforms, and other enterprise applications using APIs, EDI, SFTP, and middleware technologies. Ensure data accuracy and consistency across the financial ecosystem.
  • Technical Support & Optimization: Act as the escalation point for complex system issues, integration failures, and data synchronization challenges. Partner with internal technology teams and external vendors to troubleshoot and resolve issues while continuously improving system performance.
  • Compliance & Governance: Ensure financial systems, custom workflows, and integration processes adhere to internal controls, SOX requirements, IT General Controls (ITGC), and data privacy standards.
  • Business Partnership & Solution Delivery: Collaborate with Accounting, FP&A, Procurement, Revenue Operations, and Technology teams to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions and process improvements.
  • Automation & Process Improvement: Support and enhance automation initiatives that reduce manual effort, improve efficiency, and streamline core financial processes, including month-end close activities.
  • Documentation & Operational Excellence: Develop and maintain comprehensive system documentation, technical runbooks, workflow diagrams, and standard operating procedures to support operational continuity and knowledge sharing.


Required Skills & Experience

  • Financial Systems Expertise: 10+ years of progressive experience supporting and administering enterprise financial systems, with significant experience in ERP and procurement platform administration.
  • Integration Experience: Demonstrated success designing and managing enterprise integrations using APIs, EDI, SFTP, and related technologies. Experience integrating financial, procurement, CRM, and banking systems.
  • Technical Proficiency: Experience with integration platforms, workflow automation tools, and scripting technologies such as JavaScript, SQL, Python, or similar technologies used for automation and data management.
  • Accounting & Finance Knowledge: Strong understanding of key financial processes, including procure-to-pay, order-to-cash, revenue recognition, month-end close, consolidations, and multi-currency environments.
  • Analytical Problem Solving: Exceptional troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills with the ability to resolve complex data, system, and integration issues.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate across finance, technology, and business teams.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ERP platforms such as NetSuite.
  • Experience with procurement and spend management solutions such as Coupa.
  • Experience with integration middleware platforms (e.g., MuleSoft, Boomi, Celigo, Workato).
  • Relevant certifications in ERP administration, financial systems, procurement platforms, or integration technologies.
  • Experience working within SOX-regulated or publicly traded environments.
