Summary

Program Director – Vegetation Management

EnviroSystems Management, Inc.

Location: Primary focus in Arizona (with regional travel across the Southwest and Intermountain West)

Position Type: Full-Time (Requires ~50% fieldwork)

About the Role

Are you a seasoned environmental professional ready to lead large-scale ecological restoration initiatives? EnviroSystems Management, Inc. is seeking a strategic and field-proven Program Director to oversee our Vegetation Management Program.

In this leadership role, you will direct our noxious weed survey and treatment projects, habitat restoration initiatives, and seeding operations. You will balance executive responsibilities, such as bid management, agency partnerships, and budget tracking, with active, hands-on field leadership. If you possess a deep passion for ecological conservation, strong project logistics experience, and a track record of mentoring high-performing field teams, we want you to be on our leadership team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Program Leadership: Manage vegetation management projects end-to-end, from initial proposal writing through final execution and closeout.
  • Financial & Client Management: Generate and track project budgets, manage bids, and serve as a primary liaison with federal, tribal, state, and local agencies.
  • Field Supervision & Quality Control: Spend approximately 50% of your time in the field supervising personnel, monitoring safety standards on rugged terrains, and ensuring strict quality control measures. Field teams will need to document site conditions, habitats, invasive species, and treatment activities with photographs and field notes.
  • Fieldwork Preparation: Mix herbicides for use with calibrated backpacks, UTV mounted or other spray equipment, and set up tools to track herbicide use.
  • Operational Oversight: Plan and coordinate complex surveys and treatment projects including spot/broadcast herbicide application, cut stump, and lop and scatter thinning activities.
  • Team & Data Management: Supervise and mentor Field Directors and temporary staff. Oversee GIS/GPS data collection, analyze biological reports, and collaborate with office staff to produce precise mapping and project deliverables.
  • Equipment & Safety Compliance: Ensure the proper maintenance, calibration, and safe operation of specialized field equipment, UTVs, sprayers, and chainsaws.

Qualifications

Required Experience & Technical Skills:

  • Proven Leadership: At least 5 years of experience as a Field Director and 3+ years of experience as a Project Director in environmental or vegetation management settings with strong critical thinking skills and the ability to improve processes and field operations.
  • Licensing: Current Arizona Department of Agriculture licenses in Right-of-Way (ROW) Pest Control and Agricultural & Forest Pest Control (or the definitive ability to obtain both within 30 days of hire).
  • Botanical Expertise: Strong proficiency in identifying, documenting, and treating Arizona invasive plants and noxious weeds, including those common to the Four Corners states.
  • Technical & Field Tools: High proficiency with GPS, GIS, topographic maps, aerial imagery, Microsoft Word, and Excel. Strong competence in chainsaw operation, maintenance, and basic field equipment repair.
  • Physical Capability: Ability to hike long distances, carry up to 50 lbs. of field gear, and drive safely in remote, rugged off-road environments under diverse weather conditions.

Preferred Experience:

  • Towing UTVs/ATVs and pulling trailers.
  • Advanced off-road driving skills.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Operation of heavy machinery (e.g., skid steer, backhoe, loader).
