Location: Annapolis, Maryland (fully on-site)

** This is a temporary position to assist during the State's Legislative Session and will run from approximately November 1, 2026 through April 30, 2027.


The Maryland Department of General Services (DGS) supports State and local government agencies, as well as local non-profit organizations and the citizens of Maryland, by providing facilities management, real estate and surplus property services, as well as security and law enforcement for State buildings. DGS is also responsible for a full spectrum of facilities engineering, design and construction services, almost $1 billion in annual contract administration, and overseeing the State procurement process.

We are seeking dynamic and organized customer service professionals to serve as the welcoming face of the Department of General Services for visitors to State office buildings in Annapolis, Maryland for the 2027 Legislative Session.


In this vital role, you will greet visitors to the State government buildings, assist with the efficient flow of foot traffic by aiding visitors with the visitor management check-in system, provide exceptional customer service, and support daily administrative functions to ensure smooth visitor flow. Your energetic approach and attention to detail will help create a positive environment for visitors and employees alike. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to develop your office management and customer service skills while contributing to a professional and friendly workplace. This position’s primary responsibility will be to assist visitors with using and navigating the new Visitor Management System for checking in at designated building entrances. This will be a customer-service-intensive position that requires frequent interaction with members of the public, State employees, and legislative staff. Candidates should possess strong customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills, and be comfortable assisting individuals with varying levels of experience with technology.


NOTE: This position requires you to stand for the majority of your assigned shift while actively engaging with and assisting visitors. You will be working in State legislative buildings alongside police and security personnel.

During the Legislative Session, coverage is expected to be divided between two shifts, Monday through Friday, and you will be assigned to one of these shifts:

Day Shift: 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Evening Shift: 2:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.


Responsibilities

  • Greeting visitors, State employees, and vendors warmly, ensuring a positive first impression.
  • Answer multi-line phone systems promptly and professionally, directing calls efficiently.
  • Verifying State identification cards.
  • Direct visitors to the appropriate security checkpoints and assist with checking in visitors using the Visitor Management System.
  • Direct foot traffic and provide directions for visitor flow.


Qualifications

  • MUST BE CUSTOMER SERVICE ORIENTED!
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time and monitor foot traffic while keeping visitor foot traffic flowing.
  • Proven professional experience with strong administrative skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
