We are partnering with an established Southern California general contractor to hire an Assistant Superintendent for its growing life science construction team in San Diego.

The company specializes in healthcare and life science construction, delivering projects for hospitals, pharmaceutical, biotech and other institutional clients across Southern California. It has built a strong base of repeat clients and has a growing pipeline of work across San Diego.

This is an opportunity to join a smaller, established contractor where Assistant Superintendents get meaningful responsibility in the field and work closely with experienced Superintendents, Project Managers and senior leadership.

The Role

• Support the on-site delivery of life science construction projects across San Diego
• Work closely with the Superintendent to coordinate day-to-day field operations
• Coordinate subcontractors, trades and site activities to maintain project schedule
• Assist with short-term planning, look-ahead schedules and sequencing of work
• Monitor quality, safety and progress across the jobsite
• Review drawings, specifications and construction documents
• Help identify and resolve field issues before they impact schedule or delivery
• Coordinate inspections, deliveries and subcontractor manpower
• Assist with punch lists, commissioning and project closeout
• Maintain daily reports and other field documentation
• Develop toward taking increased responsibility for projects and progression into a Superintendent position

What We’re Looking For

• Experience working for a general contractor in an Assistant Superintendent, Field Engineer or similar field-based construction role
• Life science construction experience needed
• Experience working on commercial projects of meaningful size and complexity
• Strong understanding of construction sequencing and field operations
• Ability to read and understand drawings, specifications and project documentation
• Good communication and organizational skills
• Ability to coordinate effectively with subcontractors, project management teams and clients
• Strong focus on safety, quality and schedule
• Stable employment history preferred
• San Diego or wider Southern California construction experience beneficial
