Summary
Role Purpose
The FAA Part 145 Accountable Manager provides leadership to Repair Technicians and ensures the department remains compliant with FAA, DOT and regulations. This role is responsible for supervising and training repair technicians to ensure efficient day-to-day repair station operations. The FAA Part 145 Accountable Manager serves as a trusted department leader who helps maximize productivity and effectiveness across the organization.
Scope
The FAA Part 145 Accountable Manager directly oversees the Repair Station department and its Repair Technicians, and collaborates with internal departments, external partners, vendors, and clients. This is a DOT regulated position that requires exceptional leadership skills, professionalism, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. The role supports manufacturing processes to ensure seamless operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Directly supervise department of Repair Technicians including Leads.
- Train Repair Station technicians on all pertinent products; as per the service agreement with the client, and Training policy.
- Ensure Repair Technicians maintain aircraft components in accordance with FAA regulations, manufacturer specifications, and company procedures.
- Resolve repair, quality and personnel issues with the shop leads.
- Coordinate with Quality Manager for quality inspections needs.
- Promote and maintain safety and environmental awareness for safe operations.
- Maintain a FOD program for prevention, detection and removal of foreign objects through all phases of RS operations.
- Coordinate initial, recurrent, and remedial training.
- Provide technical support to repair station personnel.
- Ensure Repair Station adherence to current Federal Aviation Regulations.
- Communicate with the local Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) representative.
- Maintain manuals and documents.
- Foster a workplace where safety is prioritized over speed or cost
- Prepare for and support regulatory and customer audits
- Monitor deadlines and ensure timely completion of assigned tasks and deliverables.
- Ensure adherence to company’s operating policies and procedures.
- Participate in regular department and general staff meetings as required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)
- Mastery of airframe, engine, avionics, and component systems, including OEM service bulletins, airworthiness directives and structural repair manuals.
- Strong knowledge of FAA regulations, repair station manuals and quality control systems
- Ability to interpret technical documents and ensure compliance with Part 145 requirements
- Proficiency in quality assurance software and maintenance tracking systems
- Skills in damage assessment, repair planning, and return to service decisions
- Ability to conduct inspections and root cause analysis to prevent repeat failures
- Ability to streamline repair processes (disassembly, inspection, testing, reassembly) to reduce turnaround time while maintaining quality
- Ability to liaise with engineering, QA, supply chain, and customer repair stations to ensure smooth operations
- Ability to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks
- Strong leadership, organizational and communications skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-pressure environment
- Ability to adapt to new technologies, processes, and regulatory changes
