Crime Scene InvestigatorThis position will go in effective 10/1/2026. Reporting directly to Crime Scene Supervisor, responsible for performing field tasks associated with the collection, observation and documentation of crime scenes and evidence for the Williamson County Sheriff's Office (WCSO).Examples of work performed:Conducts routine field observations of crime scenes and collects evidence from crime scenes to assist with investigationsPerforms comprehensive latent prints comparison and processes fingerprints through multiple databasesCompiles and retains daily, monthly, and annual reports related to evidence, fingerprinting, and crime scene information for the WCSOCollaborates and performs analysis to determine identity of victims and suspects related to crime scenesTransports evidence to court and testifies in applicable situations pertaining to condition of evidence and crime scene observationsAttends routine autopsies for identification and reporting purposesDocuments and performs forensic photography at crime scenes and processes evidence for trace evidence, and create reports and logs to aid investigationsCollaborates with law enforcement, attorneys, and state agencies to aid with investigationsAssists with local and state crime reporting and statisticsAttends all meetings and successfully completes trainings, as requiredPerforms other duties as assignedOrganization relationships:Reports directly to – Crime Scene SupervisorDirect Reports – NoPhysical demands:Position involves frequent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, bending, heavy lifting, and operating equipmentPosition involves safely operating a motor vehicleEnvironmental factors:Indoor and outdoor work in all environments, including inclement weatherWork is primarily indoors in an air-conditioned environmentExposure to dust, chemicals, fumes, and high noise levelsExposure to graphic material (photos, video, and audio) and persons accused or adjudicated of various crimesRegular travel between work sites as requiredIrregular hours:Work outside of the normal office hours (Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) may be requiredWill be on an on-call rotation schedule subject to being called back after normal work hoursRequires flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and/or weekend hoursMay be deemed essential personnel in the event of an emergencyMinimum qualifications:High school diploma or equivalentTwo (2) years of related crime scene experienceOne (1) year of latent print experience or educationKnowledge of crime reporting databases, photography, and latent fingerprint systemsLicenses and certifications:Required within thirty (30) days of employment:Valid driver's licensePreferred qualifications:Bachelor's degree in a related fieldIAI (International Association for Identification) Crime Scene or Latent Print CertificationCertification and/or training in crime scene processing and photography, fingerprinting and identification, and FARO laser scanner operationFour hundred (400) classroom hours related to crime scene and latent print work including evidence rooms proceduresEmployment testing:Criminal background check: YesMotor Vehicle Record check: YesDrug screening: YesPhysical exam: NoPsychological exam: NoAdditional: Must pass field training periodSupplemental information:A Williamson County online application (resumes alone are not sufficient) must be received before the position is closed.
