We're looking for experienced officers who want to continue growing their careers while serving a thriving, engaged community and working alongside professionals committed to public safety, service, and one another.What You'll DoAs a Carmel Police Officer, no two shifts look exactly alike. You'll protect and serve the community through proactive policing, emergency response, investigation, enforcement, problem-solving, and community engagement.Your work may include:Responding to calls for service and conducting proactive patrolEnforcing criminal laws, traffic laws, and City ordinancesInvestigating crashes, misdemeanors, felonies, and other incidentsConducting interviews, collecting evidence, preparing reports, and supporting criminal investigationsApprehending and arresting criminal suspects when necessaryDe-escalating volatile situations and assisting individuals experiencing mental or emotional crisesResponding to medical emergencies, severe weather, major incidents, and other threats to public safetyWorking with prosecutors and providing testimony in courtSupporting crime prevention efforts and building relationships throughout the communityParticipating in ongoing training and maintaining proficiency with Department equipment, vehicles, firearms, and less-lethal systemsWhat You BringWe're looking for officers who understand that the badge carries both authority and responsibility. Successful candidates will bring sound judgment, integrity, professionalism, emotional control, strong communication skills, and the ability to make good decisions when circumstances change quickly.You must also be prepared for the physical realities of police work, including running, lifting, restraining individuals, working outdoors in severe weather, responding to hazardous environments, and performing effectively during high-stress situations.**POSTING IS FOR CERTIFIED OFFICERS**Minimum QualificationsSuccessful candidate will:Be a certified law enforcement officerPossess a high school diploma or GEDPossess and maintain a valid Indiana driver's licenseHave Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Tier 1 certification OR completed POST certified academy from another state with 1 year full-time police experienceSuccessfully complete all applicable Carmel Police Department hiring, probationary, and field training requirementsBring Your Experience to CarmelChoosing a police department is about more than choosing your next assignment.
