Summary
Construction Superintendent, Life Science and Pharmaceutical Projects
San Diego, CA | Full-time | On-site
We are recruiting a Lead Superintendent for a general contractor delivering complex life science and pharmaceutical projects in the San Diego region. This role is for someone who knows how to run an active jobsite, lead subcontractors, protect the schedule, and catch quality or coordination issues before they affect the work.
The Superintendent will partner closely with the Project Manager while taking day-to-day ownership of field operations, site safety, trade coordination, inspections, and construction quality.
What you will do
- Lead daily jobsite operations and coordinate subcontractors, field personnel, materials, and equipment.
- Put the site safety plan into practice, lead safety meetings, and enforce OSHA and project-specific requirements.
- Work with the Project Manager to develop and maintain the schedule, identify risks, and keep trades aligned with upcoming work.
- Review drawings and shop drawings, walk the site regularly, and verify that installed work meets contract requirements.
- Track RFIs, submittals, inspections, change orders, delivery logs, and safety documentation in Procore.
- Coordinate with owners, architects, consultants, inspectors, and city officials to resolve issues and keep inspections on schedule.
- Maintain SWPPP and stormwater documentation where required.
What we are looking for
- At least five years of commercial construction experience, with a strong focus on life science or pharmaceutical work.
- Experience serving as the Lead Superintendent on life science or pharmaceutical projects.
- Experience managing projects valued at $2 million or more, including approximately five life science or pharmaceutical projects.
- Strong knowledge of construction drawings, MEP systems, site logistics, scheduling, quality control, and subcontractor coordination.
- Clear written and verbal communication with field teams, clients, and project stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Procore or similar project software. Experience with MS Project, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Revit, or Navisworks is helpful.
A degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field is preferred. Healthcare construction knowledge and HCAI experience are a plus.
The position is based in the San Diego region, with project travel possible across San Diego, Orange, and Los Angeles counties. If you have led technically demanding life science projects and enjoy being accountable for the work in the field, we would like to hear from you.
