Summary

Forward Deployed Engineer

Location: Remote from Seattle, Austin or Honolulu | Travel: 25 to 35%

Salary: $190,000 to $220,000 + Equity

Clearance: Secret and above

Our client builds mission-critical software for military logistics and sustainment. Founded in 2024, they combine Silicon Valley software talent with deep operational experience inside the Department of Defense. Their flagship platform is an AI-enabled logistics command and control system that replaces whiteboards and tile magnets with a single, real-time operating picture for commanders. It is deployed across the U.S. Army, Marine Corps and Air Force. The company has tripled in size since January 2025, hit its annual sales goal seven months early, and recently closed a $40M Series A.

The team is around 65 people, with founders from Anduril. It includes 24 deployed engineers who embed directly with military units, alongside Marine and Army veterans and a growing product team. The culture is collaborative with no silos, and engineers are encouraged to move between backend, UI and visiting bases to talk to users. What matters is what you can build and ship.

The Role

Our client is hiring Forward Deployed Software Engineers to work across full-stack development, networking, systems integration and user-focused problem solving. You work in small teams with minimal supervision, alongside Product Engineering, Design and the Mission Success team. You own end-to-end delivery of high-stakes projects for military customers, balancing speed, scalability and sound engineering judgment.

What You'll Own

  • Work side-by-side with end users to understand their hardest problems, then design and deliver software that solves them
  • Own features from concept to deployment, including prototyping, integrating with existing systems and ensuring performance in demanding real-world environments
  • Collaborate across engineering, product, design and operations to build scalable systems and drive complex projects to completion
  • Monitor and improve reliability and performance by instrumenting code, analyzing metrics, diagnosing issues and iterating on fixes
  • Balance short-term urgency with long-term maintainability, making practical trade-offs
  • Travel to deploy, field-test and support software, gathering feedback directly from users in operational settings

What We're Looking For

  • 4+ years as a full-stack software engineer in a customer-facing role, such as forward deployed engineer
  • Experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, Go, C or C++
  • Strong ownership and an execution-oriented mindset
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and deliver reliable, high-quality outcomes on time
  • Comfortable travelling 25 to 35% to customer sites and exercises
  • Seattle, Austin or Honolulu for remote
