Coding Lead – Inpatient & Outpatient

Location: Rockland County, NY

Pay: $41–$46/hour

Schedule: Monday–Friday, Day Shift

Employment: 5-Month Contract-to-Hire

Work Model: Onsite Training, Then Hybrid

Medix is hiring a Coding Lead to support the HIM department of a hospital system in Rockland County.

This is a hands-on leadership role supporting both inpatient and outpatient coding. The person in this position will work closely with the Coding Manager, help keep the team organized and on track, support coders with questions and difficult cases, complete audits, and step into coding work when needed.

This is not a role where you move completely away from coding. The team is looking for someone who is comfortable being a senior resource while still getting into the charts and helping with the work itself.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Help coordinate daily inpatient and outpatient coding work and priorities
  • Support coders with questions, difficult cases, and coding guidance
  • Review productivity, quality, accuracy, and turnaround times
  • Complete coding audits and identify documentation or coding issues
  • Perform inpatient and outpatient coding when needed
  • Review ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, HCPCS, and modifier usage
  • Help resolve coding edits, denials, appeals, and reimbursement-related issues
  • Monitor coding work queues and help keep accounts within expected turnaround times
  • Work with HIM, revenue cycle, physicians, and other departments when coding or documentation issues come up
  • Assist with training, coaching, and performance improvement
  • Help the Coding Manager with day-to-day department needs and ongoing projects

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of healthcare coding experience
  • Experience with both inpatient and outpatient hospital coding
  • RHIT or RHIA required
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, HCPCS, and modifiers
  • Recent hands-on coding experience
  • Experience with coding audits, quality review, compliance, denials, or appeals
  • HIM experience
  • Previous leadership, lead, senior coder, auditor, or supervisory experience strongly preferred
  • CCS, CCS-P, CPC, or similar coding certification preferred
  • Epic experience is a plus

The strongest candidates will be people who are already serving as a Senior Coder, Coding Lead, Coding Auditor, or Coding Supervisor and are comfortable balancing leadership responsibilities with hands-on coding.

Schedule & Work Arrangement

The schedule is Monday–Friday during daytime hours.

The position will be onsite for the first 90 days for training and ramp-up. After that, the schedule will move to four days onsite and one day remote per week.

Additional Details

  • $41–$46/hour
  • W-2 through Medix
  • Approximately 5-month contract-to-hire
  • Full hospital onboarding and compliance required
  • Background check, drug screening, and health screenings required

If you have strong inpatient and outpatient coding experience and enjoy being the person teammates go to for guidance, this could be a strong next step into a larger leadership role while still staying close to the coding work.

Apply today for immediate consideration.
