Summary
Our client, one of New York City's most respected real estate law firms, is seeking an accomplished Cooperative and Condominium Partner with an established client following to assume a significant leadership role in the continued growth of its practice. This opportunity is ideally suited for an entrepreneurial attorney with deep industry relationships, a successful record of originations, and the ambition to expand a sophisticated practice within a premier real estate law firm.
The firm's established cooperative and condominium practice advises boards of directors, boards of managers, managing agents, sponsors, developers, and property owners on complex governance, operational, transactional, and regulatory matters. The incoming Partner will benefit from the firm's extensive real estate, litigation, construction, and transactional capabilities while building upon its established industry presence.
The practice encompasses the full range of cooperative and condominium general counsel representation, including board governance and fiduciary obligations, proprietary leases, bylaws and house rules, shareholder and unit owner disputes, board elections, flip taxes, alterations and license agreements, building operations, regulatory compliance, and sponsor-related matters.
The ideal candidate will possess 15 or more years of substantive New York cooperative and condominium experience, with a strong reputation among boards, managing agents, developers, sponsors, and other real estate stakeholders. Demonstrated client originations, established industry relationships, exceptional judgment, and the ability to advise clients on sensitive and consequential matters are essential.
While this is not primarily a litigation position, the Partner must possess the experience and judgment to anticipate disputes, develop practical resolutions, and collaborate effectively with the firm's litigation attorneys when necessary.
Beyond maintaining and expanding significant client relationships, the Partner will play an important role in practice development, mentoring attorneys, cultivating new business, and working closely with firm leadership to identify opportunities for continued growth. Compensation ranges from $300K to $350K, plus bonus, a percentage of originations, and a top-tier benefits package.
This is an exceptional opportunity for an established Co-op / Condo Partner seeking greater leadership responsibility, the resources of a sophisticated real estate platform, and the professional independence to build and expand a successful practice for the next chapter of their career.
