    NON-CLASSIFIED POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
    Water Commissioner
    July 14, 2025

    The Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Division of Water Resources, is
    seeking qualified applications for the position of Water Commissioner. This is a non-classified, full-time
    position within the Division of Water Resources in Carson City, Nevada.

    Recruitment: Applications will be accepted for two weeks or until the position has been filled.

    Approximate Annual Salary (DOE):
    Employee/Employer Paid Retirement $64,414.80 - $95,630.40
    Employer Paid Retirement $55,164.96 - $81,912.24

    The position is eligible for the State of Nevada Public Employees Benefit Program (PEBP).

    The POSITION: This position is located within the Water Rights Section of the Division of Water
    Resources. The principal duty of this position will be collecting water use data within Smith Valley,
    Mason Valley, and other hydrographic basins as assigned and assisting the public to answer water data
    collection questions and to explain statutes, regulations, and division policy. The incumbent will also be
    expected to manage water rights pertaining to the assigned hydrographic basins, including: statutory
    analysis of submitted water right applications for review and signature by the State Engineer; review
    applications for extension of time to file proofs; the preparation of water rights basin assessments; draft
    certificates for permits for review by the Certificate Review Committee; answer inquiries from
    government agencies, private citizens, consultants, and others regarding water related statues and
    Division policies and procedures; and perform field investigations to collect groundwater usage data,
    verify information submitted on Proofs Application of Water to Beneficial Use measure water level
    depths, and other duties as assigned by the State Engineer. Responsibilities may also include
    communicating or working with other agencies, local governing bodies, boards, or other entities.

    Minimum Qualifications: Prerequisites include graduation from a four-year accredited university or
    college in an engineering or closely related field, two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent
    combination of education and experience to demonstrate the skills and abilities necessary for the
    position. Professional communication skills and computer literacy are required for this position.
    Candidates are required to possess and maintain as a condition of employment a valid Nevada driver's
    license. Experience and education in water resources, hydrology, or scientific modeling is desired.

In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
