Innovation and Technology Department is accepting applications for
Microwave Radio Communications System Analysts* for the
Public Safety Communications Division. Microwave Radio Communications System Analysts coordinate, design, and maintain the County's emergency radio system, equipment, and associated circuits for the transmission, reception, and display of voice, data, and other information on wireless communication systems for designated County departments and outside agencies.
Duties may include:
- Performing complex analytical and technical work on microwave transmitting and receiving equipment, multiplex equipment, circuit and IP transport systems including Multi-Protocol Label Switching systems.
- Engineering and designing microwave radio and related high and low capacity interconnect systems, towers, sites, and antenna systems.
- Installing, configuring and maintaining microwave communications systems and components including licensed and unlicensed wireless transport technologies, DC power systems and related back-up/emergency power systems.
- Troubleshooting system failures, performance deficiencies and circuit/wiring issues.
The
Public Safety Communications Division provides design, operation, maintenance, and administration of one of the largest County-operated telecommunications networks in the country. The network includes the County's Regional Public Safety Radio System, which integrates all countywide law enforcement, fire, and EMS radio dispatch capabilities. Incorporated in the network are voice, radio, paging, and mobile data service elements.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Availability: Incumbents must be willing to work different shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays in support of a 24/7 operation. Positions are subject to emergency call backs and may be assigned to various work locations throughout the County without advance notice.
Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required. Employees will be required to make provision for transportation. At the time of hire, a valid California driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced for the individual providing the transportation.
Physical Requirements: Duties may involve lifting up to fifty (50) pounds; bending, stooping, and kneeling.
Pre-Employment Process: Applicants must pass a background investigation, which includes fingerprinting and medical exam, prior to appointment.

Minimum RequirementsExperience: Two (2) years of experience administering and maintaining microwave transmitting and receiving equipment, multiplex equipment, circuit and IP transport systems including Multi-Protocol Label Switching systems.
-AND-Education: Thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units (or comparable hours) of completed technical coursework or training in electronics, communication technology, or related field.
Substitution: One (1) year of additional qualifying experience may substitute the education requirement.
Desired Qualifications- Experience operating and maintaining Aviat Networks Microwave Communications Systems.
- Experience designing, installing and optimizing digital microwave radio systems.
- Experience servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing digital microwave radio systems.
- Experience configuring, programming and troubleshooting MPLS network systems.
- FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License
