The Position Correctional Nurses provide professional nursing care to patients in a correctional setting.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Department of Corrections is seeking to fill Correctional Nurse 2 positions at Ely State Prison. Incumbents will be under the supervision of the Correctional Nurse 3 and will consult with them on a regular basis. They will communicate plans with team members by attending nursing meetings and share with other team members. The Correctional Nurse will plan patient care addressing chief presenting problems incorporating the plan of nursing care into the multidisciplinary treatment plan. document the health conditions of patients using appropriate charting protocols. They will collect statistical data, tracking current outpatient medications and patient outcome. Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) License as a Registered Nurse and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which was in a correctional or institutional setting; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or Associates degree in nursing and one year of experience. Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of employment. Special Requirements A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Some positions require a valid driver's license at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
