    Currently, there is one full-time Public Works Crew Chief vacanc y in the Facilities Maintenance Division of the Public Works Municipal Operations Department. This position will assist in supervising and participating with work crews who are engaged in a variety of maintenance, repair and construction activities in support of the Public Works Department’s systems, services and programs. This role involves supervising and training staff or contractors in the maintenance, construction, and repair of city infrastructure, ensuring safety protocols are followed and city standards are met. Responsibilities include coordinating with other departments, overseeing contractor work, maintaining records and reports (including NPDES compliance), and responding to public inquiries or emergencies. This role is designated for swing shift hours .

    Selection Components
    • Application Evaluation: Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis with the first review date of August 27, 2025, or at 150 applications - whichever occurs first . . Those candidates deemed most qualified as reflected in their application will be invited to an interview.
    • Interview: Tentatively scheduled on Tuesday , September 9, 2025. Passing candidates will be placed on an eligibility list that may be used to fill future vacancies.
    Schedule:
    This position works a 9/80 schedule.
    • The hours are 1:30 PM to 11:00 PM , with alternating Mondays off.

    The City offers an excellent benefit package and membership in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). The retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS and the employee is required to contribute 8% of pay toward the retirement benefit.

    Experience & Education and License/Certificate

    A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

    Experience : Three years of increasingly responsible experience performing maintenance, construction and repair work in the assigned area of responsibility. Experience in a lead capacity is desirable.

    Education : High school graduation or equivalent. Additional college level coursework, studies or certifications is desirable.

    License or Certificate : Due to the performance of some field duties, which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver’s license and an acceptable driving record are required. Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a Class A driver’s license within twelve months is required depending on assignment. All employees who operate commercial vehicles are required by California State Law, as a condition of employment, to submit to drug and alcohol testing. Prior to hire, former employers will be contacted regarding drug and alcohol testing results

    Additional Requirements Depending on Assignment:

    Possession of a Qualified Applicator’s Certificate, or the ability to obtain such certificate within twelve months of appointment.

    Possession of a Certified Arborist credential from the International Society of Arboriculture, or the ability to obtain such credential within twelve months of appointment.

The City Manager is responsible for carrying out the policies and ordinances of the City Council, for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the City, and for appointing heads of departments.
