    About the Program:

    The B.A. in Music program provides students with comprehensive training in musicianship, private instruction, recital repertoire, and ensemble performance. Faculty offer individualized guidance while maintaining high academic and artistic standards, preparing students to excel as performers, educators, and professionals. The curriculum is designed to equip graduates with the knowledge, skills, and adaptability required for success in the evolving landscape of the twenty-first-century music industry. The department is committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment that values diversity, equity, and the contributions of all students.

    About the Position:

    The Department of Dance, Music, and Theatre at CSU Channel Islands invites applications for instructors to teach private lessons to undergraduate music majors. Areas of expertise needed include piano, voice, percussion, winds, strings, and other instruments, depending on departmental requirements. Successful candidates will provide high-quality instruction that supports students’ artistic and professional development in their primary instrument. Teaching needs are determined annually and may vary based on student enrollment and program priorities. Instructors are also expected to participate in departmental juries, auditions, and student recitals as appropriate.

    Minimum Degree Requirements:

    Master of Music (M.M.) required; Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) preferred.

    Required Qualifications :
    • A Master of Music (M.M.) in Performance, Music Education, or a closely related field is required; a Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) is preferred.
    • Demonstrated expertise and professional experience in the applicant’s primary instrument or voice area.
    • Teaching experience at the university, college, or advanced high school level.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Commitment to student success and the mission of the program.
    • Ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, and ensemble directors.
    • Flexibility in scheduling and willingness to contribute to departmental juries, auditions, and recitals.
    • Applicants should demonstrate the ability to effectively engage with a broad student population and provide mentorship that supports student academic success.


    Preferred Qualifications :
    • Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) or equivalent professional experience.
    • Professional performance experience (solo, ensemble, or recording).
    • Success in student recruitment and mentorship.
    • Familiarity with current pedagogy and instructional technology.


    Responsibilities:

    Teach weekly private lessons to music students in their selected instrument of choice. A private lesson instructor helps students understand the foundation and fundamentals of their instrument.

    Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule:

    California State University Lecturer Salary (Academic Year) Schedules (anticipated hiring ranges)
    • Range 2: $5,507-$6,677
    • Range 3: $6,221-$13,224
    • Range 4: $6,825-$14,523
    • Range 5: $8,593-$15,211

    Placement into a range is based on qualifications and experience. Initial assignments are typically at the bottom third of the salary range. The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salaries indicated in the schedules above are prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.
