CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT 1) Background: Candidates must not have been convicted of a felony and must successfully pass an extensive background investigation which includes a fingerprint check, polygraph, and psychological evaluation.
2) Shift: Applicants must be available for
all shifts; incumbents will be required to work rotating shifts, or be on call for work, on weekends, holidays, and evenings, including mandatory overtime; refusal of assigned shift may result in removal from the list or termination.
3) Availability: This department is a "24/7" operation, and the incumbent can expect to work rotating, night, weekend, day, and graveyard shifts, as well as holidays and weekends.
4) Sponsorship: Please note San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Minimum RequirementsMust meet ALL of the following KEYBOARDING SPEED 40 wpm
CERTIFICATION California P.O.S.T. Basic Dispatch Certificate
-AND-
120-hour P.O.S.T. certified basic complaint/dispatcher course certificate
EXPERIENCE Two (2) years of full-time equivalent experience (within the last five (5) years) as a journey-level emergency dispatcher in a law enforcement agency communications center (equivalent to a San Bernardino County Sheriff's Communications Dispatcher), using a computer-aided dispatching system to perform data and voice radio dispatch functions.
Experience as an entry-level or trainee dispatcher is not considered qualifying and MUST be listed separately on the application from time employed as a journey-level dispatcher. Desired QualificationsCommunications Training Officer and Intermediate Dispatch POST Certificates are highly desired.
