Job Description:Purpose: Under general supervision, perform skilled maintenance carpentry work in City-owned facilities.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities: Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.- Performs skilled Carpentry work in City-owned facilities.
- Operates and maintains various power and hand tools.
- Installs, repairs, rebuilds, fabricates, replaces City facility structures and amenities.
- Reads blueprints, specifications and building codes.
- Records data.
- Measures using appropriate instruments.
- Measures/mixes ingredients.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.- Knowledge of materials, equipment, and procedures.

- Knowledge of proper safety practices, procedure and regulations.
- Skill in reading and understanding blueprints.
- Skill in estimating time, costs, and materials.

Minimum Qualifications: Education and/or Equivalent Experience:- Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus two years of experience as a journeyman carpenter
- Experience may substitute for education up to four (4) years.
Licenses or Certifications:- Texas Class C Operator’s License or ability to obtain one within 90 calendar days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience in Building Maintenance and/or Construction of Commercial Buildings.
- Experience in Commercial Door Hardware Installation, Maintenance, and Repair.
- Experience in Shop Fabrication and Installation of Cabinets, Shelving, and Counter Tops.
- Experience in Wood and Metal Stud Structural Framing.
- Experience in Installation / Replacement of Commercial Wood and Metal Doors & Casings.
Preferred Certifications:- OSHA Construction Safety and Health 29 CFR 1910 Certification, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.
- Aerial Lifts 29 CFR 1926.453 Certification, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.
- Fork Lift 29 CFR 1910.178 Certification, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.

Notes to Candidate:The purpose of the
Carpenter position is to perform building construction, inspections, repairs and maintenance to PARD Facilities, including Historical, Administration, Museums, Recreation and Community Centers.

- Physical Requirements: Tasks may involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying, or using a force equal to lifting up to thirty-five (35) pounds. Work environment includes inside, and outside environmental conditions, extreme temperatures, and hazards associated with equipment operation including fumes, oils, gases, and mists. Must be physically and mentally able to communicate, respond, and work with participant’s needs and safety issues.
Other:- Travel: If you are selected for this position and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

Salary Range:$22.22 - $24.77 per hour.
Work Location: Central Maintenance Complex: 2525 S Lakeshore Blvd
Work Hours:- Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
- Hours vary depending upon Departmental needs.
- May be required to work during special events, evenings, weekends & occasional holidays.
- May be required to work during City emergencies such as extreme weather events.
