The City of Austin's Emergency Medical Services Department provides 9-1-1 emergency medical response to the citizens of Austin and Travis County serving a population of over 2.2M citizens in a service region of over 1,039 square miles. While most of the assistance we give to the community is medical in nature, the smallest part of what we do involves truly time-critical life-threatening emergencies. Yet everything we do is about service: service to our patients, their families and loved ones; service to our community; and service to the people who make up Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services.
The IT Software Engineer will focus on developing and maintaining solutions within the Power Platform and SharePoint environments. This role involves creating custom applications, automating workflows, and enhancing user experiences through these platforms. Additionally, the Software Engineer will be responsible for SQL development, ensuring efficient data management and integration. Job Description:IT Software EngineerPurpose:IT Software Engineers are members of an agile-oriented cross-functional team who leverage software to solve real-world problems. This position actively develops new software code and works to maintain existing code with a high degree of quality, leveraging software design principles, ingenuity and creativity, attention to detail, and analytical skills to devise unique and innovative software solutions.

- Assists in the research, design, development, testing, implementation, and management of service/product solutions
- Participates in and supports implementation, development, enhancement, and software source code and script modifications
- Analyzes, creates, automates tests, and verifies and validates whether system and software solutions meet specified requirements
- Monitors performance and identifies errors and remediation
- Supports legacy systems, technology, processes
- Owns all aspects of development, from UX planning to deployment
- Ensures high-quality software deliverables by leveraging automation and tooling best practices.

- Debugs, troubleshoots, and isolates software problems. Suggests fixes to issues by doing a thorough analysis of root cause and impacts of the defect.

Preferred Qualifications: - Experience with Power Platform development, including Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power BI with certification in Microsoft Power Platform, or the ability to obtain certification within the first six (6) months of hire.
- Proficiency in SharePoint development and customization.
- Advanced SQL development skills, including query optimization and database design.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure services, including familiarity with .NET framework and C# programming.
- Knowledge of front-end development technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Experience with RESTful APIs and web services.

Employee schedules are flexible; however individuals are required to work 8 hour shifts during the core hours of 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
A hybrid work schedule may be available after the successful completion of a three-month in-office training period.
