The City of Austin's Emergency Medical Services Department provides 9-1-1 emergency medical response to the citizens of Austin and Travis County serving a population of over 2.2M citizens in a service region of over 1,039 square miles. While most of the assistance we give to the community is medical in nature, the smallest part of what we do involves truly time-critical life-threatening emergencies. Yet everything we do is about service: service to our patients, their families and loved ones; service to our community; and service to the people who make up Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services.
The primary responsibility of the Inventory Control Specialist II is operating a 24-foot box truck to deliver medical supplies to EMS stations and hospitals across the city. The person in this role will ensure accurate maintenance of inventory levels and lot numbers at all times. The inventory Control Specialist II receives, ships and verifies items assuring items received are accurate; Supports inventory and/or warehouse operations by providing on-the-job training, troubleshooting issues at various phases of the receiving and shipping cycle.
The Inventory Control Specialist ll also Identifies/ reports discrepancies in receiving by identifying damaged items and shortages and quantity of materials, placing materials in inventory.
Additionally, the Inventory Control Specialist ll will conduct periodic cycle counts/ inventories per schedule. They will operate various types of equipment including a pallet jack and/or forklift, as well as other vehicles such as Sprinter vans and a pickup truck.
The Inventory Control Specialist ll will be tasked with distribution and account for inventory by the use of perpetual inventory management systems; Required to serve in an on-call status, shiftwork and support declared emergencies. The person in this role is required to support and maintain assigned equipment, administrative space, warehouse facilities. Adheres to policies and procedures. Required to protect and safeguard, City facilities, vehicles, inventory and assets, controlled medications. May be assigned additional duties as determined by the manager/supervisor.
Job Description:Inventory Control Specialist IIPurpose: This position performs duties associated with warehouse and/or inventory management.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Receives, ships and verifies items assuring items received are accurate; inspecting condition of items; performing operational checks on equipment in inventory, comparing count/measure of items to purchase orders and packing lists, resolving discrepancies, and tracking delayed orders.
- Documents goods/services purchased, received and/or issued by recording identifying information using the appropriate tracking method and providing status updates to stakeholders on variances.
- Prepares items for shipment to ensure safe delivery and determines most economical and efficient shipping method. Documents items shipped by recording identifying information of items and transport information.
- Completes purchase requests by verifying inventory and specifications of purchase requests; preparing stock and equipment requisitions, inputting purchase orders, quotes and service requests, expediting deliveries and assisting with invoice processing.
- Replaces or repairs damaged or obsolete items using the appropriate tools and following internal guidelines.
- Resolves discrepancies in receiving by identifying damaged items and shortages and quantity of materials; placing materials in inventory, conferring with various entities to make adjustments; correcting the shortages and obtaining credits.
- Monitors and/or maintains inventory by applying fundamental control techniques; monitoring inventory level and replenishment lead times, anticipating needed items, updating inventory forecasts, minimum and maximum stock levels, and performing periodic cycle counts / inventories.
- Monitors inventory by identifying idle, excess and obsolete stock and coordinates disposition as directed.
- Supports inventory and/or warehouse operations by providing on-the-job training, troubleshooting issues at various phases of the receiving and shipping cycle, and serves as liaison among purchasing, vendors and other staff members to resolve operational issues.

Minimum Qualifications:- Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent plus three (3) years of experience in a warehouse/inventory control related field.
- Education may substitute for experience up to the maximum of two (2) years.
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience with information technology inventory systems such as Operative IQ, Maximo, or any other similar information technology inventory systems.
- Experience working in an industrial warehouse environment.
- Experience operating equipment and vehicles such as forklift, pallet jack and 24-foot box truck.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
- Ability to work overtime, be placed in on-call status and respond to declared city or department emergencies.
Licenses and Certifications Required:- Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License, if required for the position
- If required for the position, legally mandated training must be completed within 1 year of employment.
