The Department of Public Health (DPH) Clinic Operations Section is recruiting for an
Office Specialist who performs administrative clerical support work involving a variety of complex and/or specialized departmental programs and services. Office Specialists use independent judgment to interpret and explain non-routine policies, perform research and problem-solving and working under general direction.
Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
- Reviews, audits and processes a variety of transactions in accordance with applicable rules and regulations. Corrects or requests re-submittal of transactions in accordance with County policies.
- Counsels, advises, assists and explains complex policies, procedures, practices and local, state and federal regulations to employees, clients, and the general public.
- Researches and responds to problems and complaints.
- Monitors and ensures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations related to credentialing employees (providers), building and business permits.
- Contacts, collects, reviews and responds to outside sources to obtain and/or verify information (e.g. licenses, certifications, education and work history of healthcare providers and licensed individuals.
- Prepares and maintains a wide variety of detailed documents, reports, case histories, financial, medical, legal record. Track upcoming expirations and initiate renewal processes to avoid lapses in credentials.
- Coordinate with committees, prepare documentation for credentialing file review.
- Communicate and act as a liaison between providers, internal departments, external agencies to resolve discrepancies and gather required information.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Pre-employment process: Applicants must pass a background investigation, which includes fingerprinting, credit check, and/or medical exam, prior to appointment.
Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required and employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation. Mileage reimbursement is available.

Minimum RequirementsEXPERIENCE Two (2) years full-time experience performing complex clerical tasks in an office environment. Experience must be comparable to duties performed by a clerical lead worker and/or supervisor, fiscal assistant, or other office work which is non-routine in nature and requires exercising independent decision making.
Experience must be clearly described on the application and must include performing a variety of clerical tasks including public contact and computer usage.
Note: Retail sales and food service experience is not qualifying. EDUCATION Must possess a high school diploma or GED, or a U.S. Department of Education approved High School Equivalency Test.
Desired QualificationsExperience in a healthcare environment and using computer applications are highly desirable.
