    The Job

    Performance Education & Resource Centers (PERC) is recruiting for a Workplace Safety Training and Development Specialist* who will plan, coordinate, assess, and deliver countywide training programs related to occupational health and safety. The incumbent will work closely with the Department of Risk Management to develop subject matter expertise and create curriculum and training materials. Training and Development Specialists provide advanced level educational, facilitation, and staff development services including the delivery of college-accredited courses.

    Flexible schedules may be offered contingent upon satisfactory work performance and as business needs dictate. 9/80 schedules are a privilege, and availability may vary depending on work assignment.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Pre-Employment Process: Applicants must pass a background investigation, which includes fingerprinting, credit check, medical exam/drug test, and verification of employment history prior to appointment.

    Physical Requirements: Incumbents deliver classroom training on a regular basis which includes frequent and continuous walking and standing.

    Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required. Employees will be required to make provisions for transportation.

    Minimum Requirements

    Candidates must meet one of the following options:

    Option 1:

    Education: Bachelor's degree in Business/Public Administration, Adult Education/Learning, Education, Organizational Leadership/Development, Human Resources Management, Risk Management, Behavioral/Social Science, or other closely related field.

    -OR-

    Completion of TWO (2) of the following certifications:
    • Certified Asbestos Consultant (CAC)
    • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
    • Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
    • Commercial Lines Coverage Specialist (CLCS)
    • Associate in Risk Management (ARM)
    • Ergonomic certifications
    • Cal-OSHA Certified Trainer for OSHA 10
    • Cal-OSHA Certified Trainer for OSHA 30
    • Certified Forklift Trainer
    • Other closely related professional-level safety certifications may be considered

    Certifications MUST be attached to the application for consideration.

    Experience:
    Two (2) years of full-time professional-level experience administering components of an organization's occupational health and safety program which included providing training and/or developing training or informational materials.

    Option 2:

    Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution* in Business/Public Administration, Adult Education/Learning, Education, Organizational Leadership/Development, Human Resources Management, Risk Management, Behavioral/Social Science, or other closely related field.

    -AND-

    Experience: Two (2) years of full-time experience as a professional trainer or educator. **

    Option 3:

    Education: Master's degree or higher-level graduate degree from an accredited institution* in Business/Public Administration, Adult Education/Learning, Education, Organizational Leadership/Development, Human Resources Management, Risk Management Behavioral/Social Science, or other closely related field.

    -AND-

    Experience: One (1) year of full-time equivalent experience as a professional trainer or educator. **

    Important Notes:
    • *Qualifying degrees or coursework must be completed at a college or university accredited by an accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. D egrees or coursework completed outside of the U.S. must be accompanied by an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service indicating equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at a college or university accredited by an accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education.
    • **Providing professional-level training/instruction must be a primary job duty for experience to be considered qualifying.


    Desired Qualifications

    Training:
    The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five (5) years of professional level experience developing curriculum and conducting in-person trainings. The ideal candidate will also have strong project management skills and formal experience facilitating and presenting to managerial and/or executive staff.

    Occupational Health & Safety:

    The ideal candidate will have experience providing workplace safety trainings related to ergonomics, worker's compensation, insurance lines for public entities, safety and loss prevention, and health and safety practices. Desired skills include the ability to interpret and apply laws, standards, regulations, and policies relating to occupational health and safety and environmental protection. Knowledge of occupational health and safety principles with a related certification is highly desired.
