Position OverviewThe City of Henderson announces an examination to create a consideration for hire list and to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Veterinary Technician (Part Time) in the Department of Community Development and Services. The consideration for hire list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to one (1) year.
Under general supervision, provides medical care and treatment to sheltered animals under the direction of the City's contracted Veterinarian; assesses the health of animals; administers medications and vaccinations; assists with surgeries, treatment protocols, and case management; and performs related work as required.
VACANCY INFORMATION: - This is a part-time, non-PERS eligible position.
- This position does not qualify for employer-paid benefits, paid time off, wage increases, or union representation
- This position requires enrollment in the City's Alternate Retirement Systems (ARS)
- Work schedule will consist of an average of 19 hours/week. Hours per week may increase or decrease based on Department need
- May be required to work a flexible work schedule, outside of normal business hours, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or extended hours
- The physical work location is the Henderson Animal Protection Facility located at 300 E Galleria Drive, Henderson, NV, 89011
PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT: Course of work is conducted in an animal shelter setting. Incumbents are subject to noise, heat/humidity, animal wastes and fluids, odors, and other typical environmental factors common to an animal shelter or care facility.

Minimum Qualifications- Associates degree from an accredited college or university in Veterinary Technology or closely related field.
- Three (3) years direct experience working with and conducting health checks on animals.
- Veterinary Technician License with the NV. State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners required.
- Euthanasia Technician License with the NV. State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners required within six (6) months of employment.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada or "border state" driver's license, as defined by NRS 483.
- Desirable: Experience directly assisting Veterinarian in performing diagnostic, medical, anesthetic and surgical procedures on animals.
