Definition and Class Characteristics INTERVIEWS FOR SELECTED CANDIDATES WILL BE HELD WEEK OF OCTOBER 13, 2025 Join the Nevada County Purchasing Team to begin your career in government procurement. This fast-paced position is a vital support serving all County Departments. This is an introductory-level position where individuals, under close supervision, provide technical assistance with strategic sourcing and procurement needs. A Buyer I will be expected to perform basic procurement skills such as, customer service, price quoting, researching of various goods and services, specification writing, good communication and organization. Other vital duties include:
- Learn to prepare comparative evaluations and recommendations of procurements
- Assist with preparation of Bids, RFPs and Public Project documents
- Learn to how to prepare and review contracts and agreements
- Learn local, state, and federal laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations applicable to public procurement.
- Prepare written reports; maintain complete files and records of work performed
- Maintains, retrieves, and issues surplus property.
- Prepares for and oversees online surplus property auction processes.
We allow for flex scheduling and is crafted for individuals who have completed at least 60 units from an accredited college or university with coursework in business or public administration, economics, logistics, or a related field. (possession of an Associates of Arts degree is not required but is preferred). One year of experience in purchasing materials, supplies, and equipment; inventory management; or warehousing is desirable. If you have skills in government procurement, that's a plus!
This is the entry-level Buyer classification. Incumbents perform a variety of assignments related to County procurement and surplus processes. This position is flex-staffed with the Buyer II position, and candidates normally advance to the II-level after gaining sufficient experience and demonstrating required competencies.
