    Job Summary

    The Associate Director will lead the efforts of the Women and Gender Equity Center. Incumbent provides leadership, direction, development, implementation of daily operations, services, programming, and finances. Associate Director provides support and coordination that impacts the success of the WRC and its diverse community of CSULB students. The Associate Director will lead and coordinate the planning, development, implementation, and assessment of educational, social, and cultural programs, student initiatives, resources, engagement efforts, and services designed specifically for students who identify as women, women of color, pregnant or parenting, traditional, nontraditional, re-entry, transfer, students enrolled in the CalWORKs program, and those impacted by gender-based oppression.

    The Associate Director leads innovative efforts to provide an integrated approach to identifying, developing, implementing, and evaluating programs, services, and practices directed toward improving student access, outreach and yield, academic success, leadership and professional development, inclusion, persistence, and enrichment of the overall student experience. Facilitates leadership development and establishes relationships with student organizations.

    The incumbent provides services that are equitable, inclusive, culturally sensitive to enhance the quality of campus life. The position uses a student-centered and equity-minded approach in all communication and service efforts.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead Program Development. Develop and facilitate year-round programs, workshops, activities and or initiatives for students that address the needs of women, women of color, pregnant and parentings students, and those impacted by gender-based oppression.
    • Lead Student Assistants and Professional Staff. Develop annual work plans, assessment reports and provide additional data upon request.


    Knowledge Skills and Abilities

    Ability to assist students in crisis with accessing urgently needed services and maintain equanimity is required. Ability to exercise sound judgment, handle confidential matters with tact and diplomacy, and to maintain confidentiality of information as needed or to protect the rights of individuals or the University. Ability to take initiative and independently plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved. Ability to research and interpret CSU, grant, and campus policy, required. Demonstrated skill in conducting research, developing reports, and presenting findings.

    Skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, practices and procedures to define problem or objective, identify relevant concerns or factors, formulate logical objective conclusions, recognize alternatives and their implications and generating solutions to problems as they arise. Proven ability to learn, interpret, apply, and develop a wide variety of university policies and procedures relating to high-level office administration standards, policies, and issues. Demonstrated strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to initiate and problem solve. Experience with working with a diverse group of individuals or groups and in a multicultural university environment.

    Demonstrated skill in assisting and speaking with persons of various ages, socio-economic, cultural and/or education backgrounds. General knowledge of CSU/CSULB admissions requirements and procedures; academic offerings; and student support services. Ability to draft and compose correspondence and standard reports. Excellent writing and editing skills (including grammar, sentence construction and vocabulary) to compose and proofread professional level copy of letters, proposals, reports, meeting notes, invitations and announcements. Outstanding grammar, typing, and proofreading skills. Skill in reading Standard English for understanding information (e.g. business correspondence, legal and contract documents and University manuals, policies, procedures and regulations). Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships & communicate clearly & effectively with vendors, staff, peers, administrators, Campus personnel, clients, state officials, and the public. Skill in developing, implementing and assuring compliance with office and University policies and procedures while maintaining good working relationships with staff at all levels within and external to the University.

    Skill in sound time management including prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner. Flexibility with changes in workload, under pressure of deadlines, competing requirements, heavy workload and constant interruptions. Ability to work under pressure and remain calm and focused, and to calm and give focus to others in an extremely hectic fast-paced work environment. Skill in working independently with minimal direction, in setting priorities and schedules and in identifying and adhering to departmental objectives. Ability to apply independent, reasoned judgment, discretion and initiative to address problems and develop practical, thorough and technically accurate solutions. Experience with a broad range of Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and Adobe software to ensure that incumbent will be able to prepare a wide variety of correspondence, reports, forms, brochures, flyers, agendas, minutes, advertisements and text for printed materials and web pages.

    Ability to provide excellent customer service to the Campus community, vendors, and other outside agencies. Skill in performing customer service in a polite and timely fashion: ability to identify what customer needs and reroute to the correct department; ability to relay customer requests and complaints accurately and appropriately; to describe and convey services provided by the Division. Ability to operate office equipment such as fax machines; copiers; calculators; overhead and LCD projectors; scanners, etc. Must have strong knowledge and experience with PC and database software, specifically Access, Excel, PowerPoint& other general office equipment. Provide resources and/or referrals to all students to support to academic success, basic needs, health & wellness and/or creating a student-ready environment Ability to use the Council for Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) frameworks for women and gender, student leadership programs as part of an overall strategic assessment plan.

    Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

    Education and Experience

    • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree with upper or graduate coursework in counseling and guidance, human relations, or related fields and four years of professional experience in one of the student affairs programs areas required.
    • Preferred master’s degree in student development in higher education, ethnic/cultural studies, counseling, or related field.
    • Ability to work weekends and evenings. A flexible work time as needed and determined by operational needs.


    Physical Summary

    Medium work - Job involves lifting heavy-weight objects (20-40 pounds) and/or 20% - 40% of the job involves standing, squatting, kneeling, or walking. May require pushing or pulling objects within the weight limits.

    Compensation

    Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

    Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $6,019 - $7,100 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

    CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $6,019 - $8,585 per month.

    Time Base

    1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

    Duration of Appointment

    This is a temporary position for one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.

    Additional Information
