    Exciting Opportunity at SSU!

Health Education Nurse (Registered Nurse III), 11/12 Pay Plan, 551329

Are you an experienced and compassionate Registered Nurse ready to take the next step in your career? Do you excel in advanced clinical decision-making, thrive in a team environment, and enjoy shaping a culture of excellence in patient care? At Sonoma State University’s Student Health Center, you’ll work with a vibrant and diverse student population in a dynamic campus setting, where you’ll provide expert clinical care, serve as a role model for colleagues, and contribute to a supportive, collaborative healthcare team.

This RN III position offers you the chance to practice at the top of your license while still maintaining balance in your personal life. With a consistent schedule, no on-call requirements, and rare evening hours, you’ll have the time to focus on family, friends, and personal interests while pursuing meaningful, patient-centered work.

As an RN III at Sonoma State University (SSU), you’ll play a key role in advancing nursing practice at the Student Health Center (SHC), from guiding triage and complex care decisions to supporting quality improvement initiatives. If you are seeking a fulfilling career with outstanding benefits and the opportunity to grow as both a clinician and valued team member, we encourage you to apply.

    About Us

Sonoma State University values diversity, respect, excellence, and integrity. The SHC strives to provide high quality, affirming, and culturally-sensitive/humble care and health education to a diverse student population. The team includes administrators, medical assistants, registered nurses, a health educator, a laboratory scientist, a pharmacist, and medical providers. We are primarily funded by student fees, do not accept insurance, and are able to offer our students low or no-cost services. We largely treat acute illness and minor injury, perform age- and lifestyle-appropriate screening, and have the time and capacity to provide both individualized and population-based focus on health education and preventive care. We also provide reproductive health care including medication abortion. Join us and be a part of something extraordinary!

    The Role

As an RN III at Sonoma State University’s Student Health Center (SHC), you’ll be a senior member of a close-knit, skilled, and collaborative healthcare team that values excellence, dependability, empathy, inclusion, teamwork, and overall well-being. Reporting to the Associate Director of the SHC with additional work direction from the Senior Director of CAPS and the SHC, and collaborating with the Lead Physician, you will practice at the top of your license, providing advanced clinical care, triage, and patient education while also serving as a resource for other staff. Most of your time will be spent delivering direct, evidence-based patient care and exercising advanced clinical judgment in both routine and urgent situations. Beyond clinical care, you’ll play a key role in leading quality improvement initiatives, shaping nursing protocols, case management and contributing to the education development and outreach efforts that promote student wellness and prevention. In this role, you’ll ensure that care is patient-centered, evidence-based, safe, and efficient, while helping to set the standard for nursing excellence at the SHC. Your expertise will make a lasting impact on the health, well-being, and success of SSU students.

    Qualifications

To thrive in this role, you must be a licensed Registered Nurse in the State of California with demonstrated advanced clinical skills and sound clinical judgment. Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication abilities, both written and verbal, are essential. Proficiency with computers and electronic health records is required. Experience in college health or higher education, along with a commitment to serving students from historically marginalized communities, is highly preferred.
