    The Position

    Bargaining Unit: Management - Mgmt Classes, Classified & Exempt

    District Representative, Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors, District 3

    Supervisor Diane Burgis was elected to office in 2016, re-elected to her second term in 2020 and re-elected for a third term in 2024. She proudly serves the 222,000 Contra Costa County's 3rd Supervisorial District residents, covering Antioch, Bethel Island, Brentwood, Byron, Discovery Bay, Knightsen, and Oakley in East Contra Costa County.

    What you will typically be responsible for:

    • Attending staff assigned advisory meetings, drafting agendas, posting and distributing agenda materials, taking meeting minutes as assigned and reporting back to County Supervisor, Chief of Staff and Deputy Chiefs of Staff.


    • Responding to constituent inquiries and issues in areas assigned.


    • Scheduling and conducting meetings with concerned constituents and active community members in assigned areas or as directed.


    • Attending events and meetings on behalf of the County Supervisor that may require periodic night and weekend attendance.


    • Reviewing meeting agendas for assigned City Council and other special districts before the meetings and attend their meetings on a semi-regular basis and as needed and comment on items as authorized.


    • Establishing and maintaining communication with locally elected officials and/or their staff to ensure smooth functioning between offices.


    • Developing and maintaining current contact information for elected officials, community leaders, and organizations in your assigned areas.


    • Identifying and communicating with Deputy Chief of Staff about upcoming community and organization meetings and opportunities for Supervisor and/or staff to both attend and speak.


    • Identifying issues of interest to the Supervisor and working with Deputy Chiefs of Staff to determine the level of monitoring or advocacy needed on each issue.


    • Reviewing local publications and web-based communications to assist in identifying issues and events and distribute to the Chief of Staff and Supervisor as warranted.


    • Preparing draft talking points in conjunction with the Deputy Chief of Staff for approval for the Supervisor or staff to deliver at community meetings.

    • Organizing and planning events as directed to include but not limited to annual events, community town halls, etc.
    • Any other duties deemed necessary by the Supervisor and/or Chief of Staff

    Minimum Qualifications

    License Required: Possession of a valid driver's license may be required depending upon assignment to perform the essential job functions of the position.

    Education: Possession of an Associates’ degree from an accredited college or university in public relations, business, communications, management, political science, economics, psychology, sociology, social science or closely related field, or successful completion of 60 semester or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university.

    Substitution for Education: Additional years of qualifying experience may be substituted on a year-to-year basis for the required education.

    Experience: One (1) year of experience serving as a member of a Board of Supervisors, or three (3) years of experience in a public or private agency which involved sensitive public issues and exposure to policy and budget review and interpretation.

    Desirable Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in media, communication, journalism, or public administration
    • Experience working in a public agency (particularly an elected office)
    • Experienced with crafting timely press releases and social media announcements

    CONVICTION HISTORY

    DISASTER SERVICE WORKER
