    TEMPORARY END DATE: This position is temporary and ends on or before June 30, 2026. Any continuation beyond June 30, 2026 is contingent upon satisfactory performance and available funding.

    FT/PT: Full-time

    PAY PLAN: 12-month

    WORKPLACE TYPE: On-site (work in-person at business location)

    ANTICIPATED HIRING RANGE: Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $5,083 per month

    CSU CLASSIFICATION SALARY RANGE: $5,083 - $7,228

    PAY BASIS: Monthly

    POSITION PURPOSE: Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) at California State University, Bakersfield seeks to assist in the protection of the rights and interests of individual students and the student body as a whole. ASI exists to provide the official voice through which students’ opinions and issues may be expressed regarding university and statewide affairs, while also providing resources and programs that encourage leadership development and broaden social, educational, political, and cultural awareness for the betterment of the students.

    Under the general supervision of the ASI Executive Director, the ASI Leadership and Programs Coordinator provides coordination and support for student leadership activities, assists in the implementation of leadership development initiatives, and facilitates event logistics for ASI programs. The incumbent offers up to moderately complex guidance to student leaders on university procedures, time management, and program implementation; supports administrative and budget tracking processes; contributes to ASI communication and outreach efforts; and collaborates with campus and community partners to encourage student involvement in co-curricular activities.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Advising & Leadership Development
    Advise students within the ASI Campus Life Committee and members of ASI’s Rowdy Bunch Program, mentoring student leaders in planning events, setting goals, and developing leadership and communication skills. Provide individual and group advisement to ASI Board members and student assistants on time management, student advocacy, university procedures, and event implementation. Assist in the development and logistics of ASI Orientations, ASI Executive Officer Retreats, and ASI Board Retreats. Attend all ASI-related retreats and conferences. Conduct one-on-one check-ins with student leaders to assist with assessing progress, addressing challenges, and promoting personal and professional growth. Work with the ASI Vice President of Finance and the Director of Accounting-Student Affairs to monitor/review the ASI Budget in preparation for quarterly ASI budget reports to the Board of Directors and support students in understanding financial procedures and responsibilities.
    Programs & Activities Support
    Assist with coordinating ASI signature programs and initiatives in collaboration with student leaders, including logistics, scheduling, and program assessment. Serve as an ASI representative on campus-wide event planning committees and help to facilitate collaboration between ASI and campus partners to ensure successful program delivery. In coordination with the ASI Vice President of Campus Life, assist with developing and promoting various programs related to social, educational, and cultural programs in alignment with the ASI mission. Assist with monitoring and tracking the ASI programming budget with the ASI Vice President of Campus Life to ensure accurate reporting and documenting of expenses. Support the ASI Graphic Designer Student Assistant with the promotion of ASI programs, meetings, and events. Serve as a primary contact for vendors involved with ASI programs and the onsite professional staff at all ASI and campus collaborative events (some evening and weekend events required).
    Campus Engagement & Connections
    Provide support for collaborative programming opportunities between ASI, University departments, and community organizations by identifying opportunities and sharing ideas to broaden student involvement and expand co-curricular learning opportunities. Support outreach initiatives that help raise awareness of ASI programs and encourage student engagement across different areas of campus life. Develop and sustain strong relationships with key campus stakeholders to support mutual goals and encourage student involvement in shared initiatives. Support efforts to enhance and expand upon campus traditions that strengthen student identity and school spirit.
    Operations & Communications Support
    Maintain and organize all ASI documents and digital records, ensuring consistent and accurate information management. Oversee ASI’s social media presence, coordinating posts, campaigns, and updates that promote student involvement and highlight ASI initiatives. Assist in updating the department’s webpages ensuring content is current, relevant, and accessible. Coordinate the recruitment and hiring process for ASI student leaders and student assistants in compliance with university and ASI procedures.
    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE - Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or job-related field and two (2) years of recent related experience. Specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the appropriate knowledge, and abilities may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. A master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.

    • Knowledge of and skill in budgeting, fiscal management, and reporting.
    • Ability to plan and coordinate student programs/activities.
    • Ability to motivate, advise, and work well with college students.

    • Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism.
    • Ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems.
    • Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere in the University with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds.
    • Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner.
    • Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
    • Ability to interpret, communicate and apply policies and procedures.
    • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines.
    • Excellent computer skills and competence with a variety of computer applications including word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, on-line systems, Internet as well as online calendaring and email.
    • Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University infrastructure.
    • Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
    • Must be able to work occasional holidays and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Master’s degree in educational counseling, Student Affairs, or related field.
    • Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment possessing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS: LIGHT WORK - involves mainly sitting, up to 25% standing or walking; lifting medium weight objects limited to 25 pounds.
