Job Description:Purpose: Provide day-to-day supervision and direction to a shift of operational staff who are responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for the traveling public, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, City of Austin employees, and neighboring communities by recognizing and responding to violations of local, state, and federal laws and ordinances.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations regarding airport operations and security.
- Coordinates division operations with other divisions and outside contractors Reviews logs and reports to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Writes technical reports.
- Provides direction and instruction on resolving critical incidences/situations, operational related activities, security related activity, security breaches, violations of rules and regulations, etc.
- Develops and enforces policies and procedures, emergency plans, SOP's, ASP, etc. Investigates complaints or issues and provides recommendations for resolution.
- Monitors airport activities, inspects airport activities, and inspects airport property and facilities.
- Performs administrative duties, i.e., review, approve, generate, and distribute reports, write memos, correspondence, proposals, and review and provides recommendations for modifications to airport certification manuals/emergency plans, etc.
- Performs procurement duties and responsibilities, i.e., solicit bids, obtain purchase order numbers, track equipment purchases, report to Aviation Finance division annual inventory of equipment, etc.
- Maintains records and operational logs, prepares reports and correspondence. Reviews logs and reports to ensure accuracy and completeness to include writing of technical reports.
- Responds and handles customer complaints.
- Represents City on boards, commissions, meetings, etc.
- Advises airport management on needed actions and improvements to security and safety.
- Coordinates the airport's response to critical incidents.
- Responds and handles technical issues related to the security system.
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:- Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling and recommendation for dismissal.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:- Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with major coursework in Criminal Justice, Aviation Management, Airway Science, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field, plus three (3) years of security or airport operations work experience, one (1) year of which is in a leadership/supervisory capacity.
- One (1) year of directly related professional experience may substitute for one (1) year of the required education up to four (4) years.
Licenses and Certifications Required:- Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances required to work at an airport.
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience in safety regulations, construction standards, and best practices in an airport or operational environment.
- Experience in the ability to supervise and manage teams of 15 or more employees in a fast-paced, customer-focused operation.
- Experience in conducting investigations, documenting findings, evaluating evidence, making recommendations, and providing accurate reports.
- Experience in managing airport critical incidents.
Notes to Candidate:The Terminal Operations Supervisor ensures compliance with federal, state, and department regulations while overseeing daily operations, safety, and security within the airport. This role coordinates activities across divisions, contractors, and stakeholders, monitors facilities and operations, and provides direction during critical incidents. The supervisor develops and enforces policies, procedures, and emergency plans, investigates complaints or operational issues, and prepares accurate technical reports and documentation. Additional responsibilities include managing procurement and inventory, responding to passenger and stakeholder concerns, representing the airport in meetings, advising management on safety and security improvements, and coordinating responses to operational or technical issues to maintain a safe, secure, and efficient airport environment.
Work Hours:
Sunday - Thursday 12:30PM - 8:30 PM
Hours may change depending on departmental needs.
Work hours may include after-hours, holidays, and weekend work.
Salary: $31.39 - $39.24Driving Requirement:
This position requires a Valid State of Texas Class “C” Driver License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin's Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.
This position must travel between various locations as part of the regular job duties, and the individual will be required to drive a city vehicle. Position will also be required to drive on the AOA. Successful candidate must be in possession of a Texas driver's license as authorized by the Texas Transportation Code. A driving record verification will be completed.
Skills Assessment:A skills assessment will be required for this position.
Shift Incentive:Shift work includes shift differential incentive for evening and night shifts and weekends.
On Call/Call Back Responsibilities:Position may require on-call or call back responsibilities.
Overtime:Overtime may be required with or without notice.
Essential Personnel:This position is categorized as essential personnel. Essential personnel are required to come to work during emergencies or bad weather at the airport if they are scheduled to work and, in some cases, when they are not scheduled.
